Windows 10 Macbook Pro 2012 unibody (non-retina) Mini Displayport display not detected

External display not detected using mini displayport to displayport cable. External display runs flawlessly on MacOS but external display is not recognised.

All device drivers all fully up to date and most recent version of bootcamp support software is installed.

When booting with display connected (cold-plug), windows boot loader animation shows on external display but when windows has booted external display goes black and only macbook display works.

When using WINDOWS(cmd)+P to find external displays, external display cannot be detected.

My intuition tells me this is an issue with the thunderbolt/mini displayport itself not working properly in Windows 10, rather than an issue with the graphics or display drivers.

Anyone who can offer a solution or any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Yes I installed the lastest BootCamp 6 drivers. Are you using dual boot or running windows alone?

I think I have actually seen a previous thread where you stated you installed windows 10 via DVD, I also tried this but it would not allow me to install dual boot because of the partitioning system windows uses (MBR - Master Boot Record) where as macOS uses a GPT (Guid Partition Map). I would still like to use MacOS as my main OS and just use Windows for work.

Yes, it has an onboard optical drive.

I think I may be having some problem with the Hybrid MBR in that case.

I partition my drive in MacOS to allow 600Gb for MacOS and 400Gb for Windows 10 formatted as MS-DOS FAT.

When I get to the screen in my windows installer where I have to select which drive to use, when I select the partition 400Gb partition I created, it says windows cannot be installed here because it is partitioned with GPT. I have also tried formatting and deleting this drive in the windows installer with the same error message that the drive is partitioned using GPT.

When I boot from the Windows 10 DVD I choose the 'Windows' option, not 'EFI Boot', is this correct ? The Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort problems and some other driver problems with auido were occurring when I installed through EFI Boot.

I have a 2012 13-in MBP, which works very well. Also, a 13-in 2013 rMBP, with the same ports also works properly. Do you have Bootcamp drivers installed?

Mojave does not seem to create the Hybrid MBR. You can download GPT Fdisk (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/), which can help us create the MBR.

Dual-Boot.

If your Mac has a built in Optical drive, then you have two choices...

USB2 Flash drive (BC Drivers) + DVD W10 Installation Media, or,
USB2 Flash drive created by BC Assistant using a W10 ISO

Your 2012 Mac should use a Hybrid MBR, which is an overlay on top of a standard GPT disk.
