Iphone 11 Pro Max and Carplay not working

I have the new iPhone 11 Pro Max and a 2018 Nissan Maxima with carplay. Carplay worked with my previous Iphone X even after the IOS 13 upgrade but with the Iphone 11 Pro Max carplay just keeps saying it won't start and retries again. Any ideas?

Also having the same issue on my 2016 Yukon Denali. I've had 2 phone conferences with Apple Engineers and they installed some diagnostic software to see what is going on. They said a reply can take 24 hours to 4 days. Will update.

I’ve had this same issue for a month!! Been sending diagnostics to Apple engineers (they are still working on it). Have had one of their geniuses working on it. I own a Nissan Altima 2018. Previously had an iPhone 7 Plus, absolutely no issues with my CarPlay. So further down in this thread it suggested waiting to plug in the iPhone 11until you see that your Bluetooth is connected all the while keeping your phone locked. Once it says Bluetooth connection yes, unlock your phone and plug in. Works like a champ. Not sure why Apple hasn’t figured that out or why they aren’t reading this discussion!!! Pretty simple fix in my opinion!!

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but I don’t believe there is one single fix, or one that works for long. I’ve had mine working without Bluetooth being on at all, or as you suggested, plug in after Bluetooth is connected, only to have it disconnect and reboot my Subaru system altogether, in the middle of a phone conversation. I have tried ALL of these fixes, and while they may work for a minute, nothing has been long term. Currently I’m trying the USB C adapter that has been suggested. It has been working for a week. I will not say it’s good until I’ve had at least one month of no random reboots, loss of sound, etc.

i do thank you for reporting directly to Apple. I’ve done this numerous times as well.

I think it has more to do with the Bluetooth function. I’ve noticed it’s very difficult for this phone to connect to any Bluetooth that’s not an Apple product. The conditions need to be perfect which rarely happens and why I think it’s so persnickety connecting sometimes. All these changes, the USB-c cord, turning off battery optimizing (which I don’t think has much to do with it) and waiting for your car (Nissan in particular) to connect to Bluetooth before plugging your phone in and making sure your phone is on the home screen, all play a role in the phone connecting. I’m having a lot more times with it working than not since I purchased this phone. I do know they are listening to me and working on a permanent fix as I have a case open and I’m sending in emails and diagnostics.

So my Vehicle is a 2019 Jeep Cherokee and I have a IPhone 11 Pro, so I just went on the Mopar site and noticed that currently they are running, 12.1.2 OS, and supporting IPhone XS Max.

i sent an e-mail to Mopar.com tonight, I don’t know if this is the cause but I never had this issue until I upgraded my phone and Apple upgraded its operating system!

ill keep you posted!

I got an iPhone 11 Pro Max after Christmas that I immediately updated to iOS 13 upon unboxing.

I have a Pioneer Carplay system that I’ve had for about 4 years and that I’ve used successfully with iPhone 6, 7, and 8. I updated the firmware on the Pioneer system about 9 months ago to the latest.

However, when I connected the iPhone 11 to the Pioneer system I got nothing. Even though I could connect other generations of iPhones and run CarPlay no problem.

I googled the issue and tried many of the suggested solutions with no luck. However, there was one thing I read that I hadn’t tried: use an official Apple USB cable to connect the iPhone to the Pioneer. However, as you know, you need an adapter to connect the new Apple connector to traditional USB.

I ordered the adapter and it arrived today. I went out to the car feeling very skeptical. I connected the adapter and the cable to the Pioneer system, then plugged it into the iPhone, fired up the car, and.... I’ll be ****** if CarPlay didn’t come right up.

I tried again with several so-called “certified compliant” cables from third parties and got nada.

So, there you have it. The secret sauce appears to be that you must use an official Apple USB cable for iPhone 11 / iOS 13 connected to CarPlay. That’s not to say that there aren’t other, unrelated problems that people are experiencing, but this appears to be a big piece of the puzzle.

I’m the original creator of this post, figured I’d give an update. On my Nissan Maxima I’ve been able to figure out that I can use a standard Apple Cable without the adapter and connect successfully. However only when my phone is fully charged. Oh and as long as I’m using Apple Maps and not Waze. Today I went to my Nissan dealer and they indicated that Nissan is working on a software update for the car to fix the issue. They indicated every time a new iPhone or Android. comes out they see issues like this. They said the update takes 4-6 months. The IPhone 11 has been out 3 months so maybe need to wait at least 3 months for the fix :(

Yes!!! Agree! I’ve been running mine successfully with the USB-C cable with the adapter - works every time (fingers crossed). I have noticed that when I don’t allow my car to warm up, the connection is very staticky and runs slowly until it warms up. Our morning temps dip down into the 20’s and 30’s so might not be an issue fir those who live in warmer climates.

So, I’ve used an adapter with the original cord and it worked with no problem for about a week and a half and then it stopped working so I had to change it back to an aftermarket and it’s working at times. If you go into Apple car play settings and turn it to always on, when your phone plugs in it’ll always attempt to go to Apple car play and it’ll work after so many tries but there’s definitely a software problem going on here

Same issue here with my Nissan Maxima 2018 (compatible with Carplay) and it takes 5 attempts to connect (tried different OEM cables), and when it does, works fine for 10 minutes and then start lagging and getting choppy (cutting the music every second and it is impossible to have a phone conversation because is cuts the voice too, like if it was a broken record every second or so). I'm using an Iphone 11 Pro Max with iOS 13.3 the irony was that I switched from Android 10.01 (with a OnePlus 6T) because it keeps reconnecting and with my old iphone (7) I never had that problem. Hopefully they'll fix it soon. Tim Apple please fix it ;) ;)
