Iphone 11 Pro Max and Carplay not working

I have the new iPhone 11 Pro Max and a 2018 Nissan Maxima with carplay. Carplay worked with my previous Iphone X even after the IOS 13 upgrade but with the Iphone 11 Pro Max carplay just keeps saying it won't start and retries again. Any ideas?

Also having the same issue on my 2016 Yukon Denali. I've had 2 phone conferences with Apple Engineers and they installed some diagnostic software to see what is going on. They said a reply can take 24 hours to 4 days. Will update.

But when the phone is plugged in, it’s charging so not sure how it needs the shaft charger? Mine works all the tine now the the adapter and the 3rd USB-c cable but I have to make sure that I wait for the car to acknowledge that my phone is connected over Bluetooth and that my phone is unlocked and on the home screen before I plug it in. Once I do that, the screen tells me it is disconnected ting from Bluetooth and CarPlay starts. The ONLY time it doesn’t work, is when the Bluetooth doesn’t start or disconnect. I think it’s a Bluetooth issue. I have a very hard time connecting to any Bluetooth with this new iPhone 11

My iPhone XR was working fine with CarPlay up until a few days ago in my 2019 Lincoln MKC. Now I’m finding upon plugging in my phone it’s either;

a) not initializing at all until I reboot my phone or

b) takes between 30 seconds to upwards of 2-3 minutes to initiate CarPlay.

Frustrating to say the least - but all arrows point to iOS13...

I'm having a similar problem. When using my iPhone 11 Pro, CarPlay is extremely laggy – it's unusable. Maps are several streets behind, music cuts out ever other second (sounds like it's aggressively buffering), and even the clock gets up to two minutes off.

My wife's 11 Pro Max does not have this issue. I just got the phone so I thought there was an issue and switched it out – nothing. I'm running iOS 13.3 (so is my wife), my headunit is a Sony XAV something or other with up-to-date firmware, and I've reset everything to factory at least once. None of it works, this has to be an issue with iOS.

It is not the cable, I tried many cables and got the same result. It has something to do with the BT connectivity and the sequence between starting the car (system boot), BT connection with the car and the cable connection. It I wait from 2 minutes from with the car idle, unlock the phone and connect it it works (for some time) randomly start getting the sound choppy (like the processors is overloaded). IDK what else to try. I bet the next iOS patch will be fixed.

I think I have figured it out. It is definitely a BT issue. I get in my car, wait for blue tooth to connect, also wait for my car to warm up because I have found that when the temps dip below 39, it does the skipping thing. If I drive around for about five minutes making sure the radio and the cord are warm, then plug it in, I do not get any skipping. I have had complete success for the last two months doing this every tine. I also unplug it before I turn my car and allow BT to reconnect before shutting my car off. This phone has a Bluetooth issue. I find it very difficult to connect to new BT devices. Once it connects, I don’t have any issues.

I have an iPhone 11. CarPlay does not work with my 2019 Mercedes E300. Never had any issues with iPhone SE, 8, XR with this car and many previous Mercs.

this issue is specific to the 11. And yes, I’m connecting using the physical cable. Also have a support escalation open with Apple. No resolution yet except they are working on the issue.

Hi!

it has been said already but guess worth or reminding. The same problem with brand new Corolla. Everything works perfectly until call. 3x11Pro - work bad, 1xX, 1x7+ work fine! All of the iOS13.3. Different cables, different connectors, different configuration, resets etc.

what works (poor workaround) is switching to Speakerphone or AirPods during call. Then everything works. Just after switching back to the car - choppy:)

sometimes... like 1/10-1/15 it worked properly without any reason.

I had this issue with my 2017 Nissan Maxima (have to plug USB for carplay). I initially did not have this issue when I first purchased the car back in November 2019, however when I got it back from the dealership (to fix a window issue) that is when I noticed the horrible music skipping. It got worse when I had googlemaps and spotify running at the same time. So within the last week I decided to clear my Bluetooth devices and try it again. So far I haven't had any music skipping problems since removing my device from Bluetooth connectivity (I did not add the phone back to the car) and that has been for a week now. If anything changes I will post again.

I am also having this same issue. Was on the phone with Apple for 1hr 1/2...wont hear back until Friday once their engineering team looks at what is wrong. My 10 XS Max worked fine with Apple CarPlay and now with the 11 Pro Max I can't even connect to CarPlay with my USB cord. Very frustrating and Apple doesn't seem to know what is going on. One of the senior technicians said they may have to take my phone to look at the issue and issue me a completely new phone.
