Iphone 11 Pro Max and Carplay not working

Unfortunately I tried that and although it did work better I can still only connect about 40% of the time. Unless I need to try a different adapter. It’s a shame that apple doesn’t sell or recommend one.

I have the same exact issue. CarPlay worked flawlessly using iOS 13 on iPhone 8 Plus. But ever since I got iPhone 11 Pro Max, it cycles “Starting CarPlay” and “CarPlay failed to start”. iPhone gets really hot and really doesn’t charge.

It’s been said multiple times but their is nothing we can do until Apple makes an update with a fix. Unfortunately we are all stuck without CarPlay until Apple does what they need to do. The original lighting cable and using a USB-C adapter only works for a limited amount of time unless you are lucky.

I’m not sure it’s Apple though. CarPlay with this exact iPhone and cable works flawlessly every single time in the VW Passat and a Ford Fusion rental car I had for 2 weeks. Being an engineering tech, I’d be interested to see how much current the new iPhone 11 Pro Max draws vs the old iPhone 8 Plus. It actually acts like it’s over loading the USB port or perhaps it’s right at the threshold. USB 1 vs 2 vs 3 all have different max current they BBCan support and iPhone 11 is drawing just slightly more current than the Maxima’s USB1 can support, is actually expect it to act that way. The only way I would know how to fix that is if Apple disables fast charging while on CarPlay. Just a hunch I’ve had.

I’m starting to think it’s a current issue as well. I started using the Apple Battery Case for it and it doesn’t disconnect as much if I’m using strictly Apple Maps and Apple Music for tunes and navigation. Sounds silly but it’s been working.

Senior tech told me to buy USB C ADAPTER

I did and used it with the cord that came with my 11 Pro Max. Now it works maybe 50% of the time.

Pathetic that Apple doesn’t do a real fix. Apple has been aware of the CarPlay issue since at least Sept

I’ve tried that and it helped but didn’t fix the problem. The majority of the time it just doesn’t connect or it’s jittery like it has a RAM issue or something. Maybe you can share which adapter you actually purchased?

Hey everybody I have great news. I just updated my phone to the beta version of iOS 13.4 and I think it’s fixed! I’ve used 6 different cables and they all work. I’ve unplugged it and plugged I back in and it’s working every time! Keeping m fingers crossed, I think this update might be the one :-)

I think it may actually be fixed! I upgraded to iOS 13.4 beta today and it’s been working every since. I’ve tried about 6 cables and they all worked. I unplugged it while it was on and plugged it back in several times and it’s worked every time. Keep your fingers crossed I think this update fixed it.

I actually think it’s fixed. I installed iOS beta 13.4 today and it’s been working every since. I’ve used multiple cables and unplugged it several times while it was running. I waited an hour or so a day went back out to my car and tried it again and it worked. So I think this update my actually fix it.

So far I’ve ran non Apple apps like Waze and the Sirius XM streaming app. Hasn’t crashed. I highly prefer Waze than Apple Maps. Good you’re being cautious, I don’t recommend running the beta if you don’t know how to revert back to the last official release of the iOS software.

Yes it’s working great. No problems at all. No need for adaptors or anything. I was so frustrated so I’m glad they finally fixed this. I had stopped using the beta cause I thought it might be part of the problem so I’m glad I put it back on. 13.4 definitely fixed it.

Betas are not for everyone but I’ve been using the developers betas for years, not the public ones. And I stopped using it because of this issue thinking it was part of the problem. So I’m glad I put it back on. It’s definitely fixed. Look for that 13.4 upgrade.

I can confirm the adapter with the original Apple cord DOES NOT WORK. Phone calls failed with my 2018 Subaru this morning.

Considering the public beta. Someone please remind me what needs to be done when the final release is out to get off the beta?

Updated to 13.4 beta and now its working flawlessly on my '18 Maxima, no need for adapters, butter smooth and takes less than a second to switch to CarPlay after the Nissan/NissanConnect bootup screen, using a standard USB A to lightning that came with the AirPods. Would recommend to backup your iPhone and getting on the beta if you heavily depend on CarPlay for your commute.
