Iphone 11 Pro Max and Carplay not working

I have the new iPhone 11 Pro Max and a 2018 Nissan Maxima with carplay. Carplay worked with my previous Iphone X even after the IOS 13 upgrade but with the Iphone 11 Pro Max carplay just keeps saying it won't start and retries again. Any ideas?

Also having the same issue on my 2016 Yukon Denali. I've had 2 phone conferences with Apple Engineers and they installed some diagnostic software to see what is going on. They said a reply can take 24 hours to 4 days. Will update.

I am very disappointed to report that the iOS 13.4 Beta does NOT fix the problem. If you haven’t already joined the Beta Program, don’t bother with the hassle. In the first half hour of my commute, using the USB-C adapter and the original Apple cord that came with my 11 pro, CarPlay disconnected 7 times. It would just stop playing My iHeart Radio app. If I switched to regular radio, it stopped playing that too. I needed to disconnect and reconnect. Data network was working, my phone was charged to 100%, using original cable, phone reset, CarPlay reset, firmware up to date... At least now I can report this to Apple through the beta, to add to my five previous reports to engineering and to the geeks at the Apple Store. In my opinion, 13.4 has made things worse, at least for me and my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek.

Sorry to hear that, it did fix it for me iPhone 11 Pro Max with Nissan Maxima 2018... I have been testing it since last week and no issues at all. Fixed The random disconnections and the choppy sound like it was a memory overflow. There are some quick fixes at the beginning of this thread like enable Siri and other tricks that need to be enabled in order to work.

I’m glad it’s been working for you both.

I’ve tried all the “fixes” listed in this thread. Renaming the phone, enabling Siri. All of them. Very disappointing. I had one month of no interruptions back in October, might have been 13.1.2 (?) but it broke again with the next update. My biggest issues now are the no sound for phone calls or Siri, and random , but frequent, disconnects.

CarPlay stopped working on 2018 Honda Accord with iOS 13.3.1 on iPhone 11 Pro Max using short apple branded old usb cord (not usb-c). Nothing can do to fix. Happened before after an iOS update with old phone (6s) but eventually worked again. Should I get the male to female usb-c adapter? Try a beta iOS? Need help! Got too spoiled with my CarPlay! :(

You could try, but I wouldn’t purchase anything you can’t return. The beta 13.4 has not fixed my issue, but made them different. I get more frequent disconnects when play iHeart radio but somehow discoversed that turning off play then play again reconnects it. Not sure about phone disconnects yet (person answers but no sound on either line) because I haven’t been talking much in the car lately. I’ve had the beta since the weekend. Driving 2019 Subaru Crosstrek.

Do you have the latest update for your radio? What version is it at?

This specific issue is addressed in the second to last update: 19.25.70

You should not run beta and connect it to your car. You could potentially run into negotiation issues due to the way the car stores profiles for connections. Clarion, who makes the radio for Subaru, holds these setting persistently and tries to use those profiles for future connections for the same-named devices. The only remedy would be a full reset of the car radio. I would recommend getting off that beta, a full reset of the radio and try again.

You will lose your destinations and system preferences.

I appreciate your help, however “it’s my job” doesn’t really help me or direct me as to where I can look these things up on my own.

I had my car in for service and asked them to update it one week ago. Now although I wasn’t standing over their shoulder while they did it, I’m confident it has been updated.

They also did not offer the same warnings as you about the beta as I discussed with them my thoughts about installing it as people on this forum were saying it was helpful. I installed the beta 5 days ago.

Embedded systems engineer. I develop the underlying foundations of in-car entertainment systems with a specialty in device integration.

Please provide the system version so I can assist further. Take a picture if that makes it easier. Please tell me what you did to initiate a reset of the system.

I would not expect any service technician at a dealer to know what I know about these systems. It is literally my job.

I don't appreciate the combative tone. I'm offering the best assistance you will ever get for an issue like this. I don't know what dealer you went to and if a competent person was working on your car. In troubleshooting an issue like this we have start with the assumption that nobody did anything correct and start fresh.

I’ve tried that and nothing. I’m currently on the public beta software. Every time I’ve hit the projection button on my 2017 camaro it doesn’t move past after hitting the activation button

Did you factory reset your nav?

What were the results?

Get off that beta, its a bad idea to fill your navigation with beta BT profiles.

Mine works flawlessly every time. I did buy the USB-C adapter and only use the lightening curd from my 11. I’m assuming you’ve done that as well since it’s the first thing they suggested. I know this has been a huge issue. I spent days with an Apple support person and I’ve gotten more information on this site than with them! Definitely a company more interested in phone sales and profits, than helping their customers.
