Iphone 11 Pro Max and Carplay not working

I have the new iPhone 11 Pro Max and a 2018 Nissan Maxima with carplay. Carplay worked with my previous Iphone X even after the IOS 13 upgrade but with the Iphone 11 Pro Max carplay just keeps saying it won't start and retries again. Any ideas?

Found a solution here. Please buy a USB male to type c female converter. Use that to connect with the type c lightening cable comes with the iPhone 11. It works immediately when I plug in.

It is the software and hardware compatibility issue. This could be a fix before the official solution comes out.

You could try, but I wouldn’t purchase anything you can’t return. The beta 13.4 has not fixed my issue, but made them different. I get more frequent disconnects when play iHeart radio but somehow discoversed that turning off play then play again reconnects it. Not sure about phone disconnects yet (person answers but no sound on either line) because I haven’t been talking much in the car lately. I’ve had the beta since the weekend. Driving 2019 Subaru Crosstrek.

Do you have the latest update for your radio? What version is it at?

This specific issue is addressed in the second to last update: 19.25.70

You should not run beta and connect it to your car. You could potentially run into negotiation issues due to the way the car stores profiles for connections. Clarion, who makes the radio for Subaru, holds these setting persistently and tries to use those profiles for future connections for the same-named devices. The only remedy would be a full reset of the car radio. I would recommend getting off that beta, a full reset of the radio and try again.

You will lose your destinations and system preferences.

Same issue with my 2019 Silverado 2500, and iPhone 11 running iOS 13.1.2. I got an iPhone cable directly from Apple, formatted my phone like it's brand new, and began my testing.

With my freshly formatted iPhone I would simulate my typical drive cycle. So unlock the car with the remote, open the door, close it, start it up, plug in my iPhone, check to see if it works or not by waiting a minute or two and pressing the projection button, and then turn the truck off, take the keys out of the ignition, open and close the door, lock it with the remote, and repeat.

Out of 10 or so times I've tried, it only connected two or three times and only using the USB ports directly under the infotainment system. CarPlay did not start up at all for me using the USB ports in the arm rest cubby. It also did not start up for me using an Amazon Prime iPhone cable.

I think I have figured out where my issue is. I tried the battery setting with no luck, and I tried the usb a to usb c adapter with no luck. I did not try 13.2 beta but with what other people have stated it seems like it is hit or miss.

What I have noticed is this: if I crank my 2015 Silverado and allow my phone to connect to Bluetooth then unlock my phone and plug it in, it disconnects from Bluetooth and connects to CarPlay every time. If I do all of the same steps but don’t unlock my phone then it doesn’t work...ever. And this with with me having the setting enabled for CarPlay to work with the phone locked.

So for now I just make sure I unlock my phone before plugging it in...hopefully Apple will fix this.

Hello everyone, I travel a lot for work and have experienced the same issues with my iPhone 11 Pro Max that everyone else here has had. I believe I have found the issue that's causing all this and somewhat of a solution. It is similar to what someone talked about in this forum, that the phone is having issues with the "quick charge" feature, and it's having problems transferring both power and data. I've noticed that every time my phone is below 99% battery life, Carplay has no hopes in working, but whenever my phone is at least 99-100%, it works without fail. So the solution maybe to just have your phone charged all the way. I know it's not the more effective solution, but if everyone can try this and has similar results, at least we know what's actually causing this.

2019 Leaf here, and I am having the same issues. iPhone 7 worked fine, but iPhone 11 isn’t working with iOS 13.1.3

I tried renaming my device and forgetting my car in CarPlay on the phone, then trying again. Didn’t work.

I tried turning off the Optimized Battery Charging feature. Didn’t work.

I tried a new iPhone cable, and it WORKED!

Pretty frustrated though, the old cable (Apple certified but not an Apple manufactured cable) works fine with an iPhone 7, and this BS with having to use an Apple provided cable versus Apple certified is getting ridiculous. They should be sued for anti competitive practices.

One thing I haven’t checked is whether or not turning the battery optimization back on with the new iPhone cable still works, will try that tomorrow.
