Iphone 11 Pro Max and Carplay not working

I have the new iPhone 11 Pro Max and a 2018 Nissan Maxima with carplay. Carplay worked with my previous Iphone X even after the IOS 13 upgrade but with the Iphone 11 Pro Max carplay just keeps saying it won't start and retries again. Any ideas?

Also having the same issue on my 2016 Yukon Denali. I've had 2 phone conferences with Apple Engineers and they installed some diagnostic software to see what is going on. They said a reply can take 24 hours to 4 days. Will update.

After a couple of weeks of trial and error, I think I’ve figured out the only way it seems to work. You need the USB C cable plugged into the USB C - A adapter. Battery charge optimization needs to be turned off and the phone needs to be charged to at least 95%. Anything less than that causes lag and eventually it shuts off, which I assume is a bandwidth issue. I’ve spoken to Apple customer support three times now and they claim they have heard nothing about this issue.

I have a 19 subaru forrester and have never had more problems than with the iPhone 11 pro max! 1200.00 phone and CarPlay is broken. Tried different cables; applied an update from subaru, moved to different usb connections.

They need to fix this. This is a basic need. How can i trust using maps and CarPlay when my radio reboots arbitrarily while driving! Calls are dropped; audio doesn't work at times.

All of it leads to a broken CarPlay.

That is very interesting @acbme, my sister just bought one and I tested mine since I have issues in my 2018 nissan maxima; no issues at all on her new forester.... I've also talked to Apple and was told they are aware and working on solving the issue which is interesting that they told @craigfromworcester that they've never heard about it. Who are they lying to? In any case, this is extremely frustrating, but if you haven't or anyone else for that matter, please post this on the feedback page for apple.

I would be more hesitant to blame Apple and CarPlay had this been the only iPhone I used with my subaru and CarPlay. But we recently upgraded to the iPhone 11 Pro Max from an iPhone 8 Plus.

That phone rarely if ever had a problem. Occasionally the phone would need to be rebooted...but that was it.

So I am fairly confident it is CarPlay and the iPhone 11 Pro Max and not my car.

After a couple of frustrating weeks of trials and no word from Apple on the matter. I can report that using iPhone 11 in conjunction with Navigation System on a 2018 Nissan Maxima. The only way I can get Carplay to work, is with Bluetooth turned off and iPhone fully charged, using cable the it came with.. I have determined to give them 1 more chance and wait for 13.3.

If that still does not fix it, I will return it and opt for Android. Finito!!

problem solved: go buy a new lightning cable from Apple directly the chip inside to Cable might be updated

I have the same issue here I recently purchased iPhone promax and it’s very lacking or not working on my aftermarket Apple CarPlay device. I have tried a lot of ways for example reset the iPhone or reset the Apple CarPlay in the car. None of them worked

but last night when I purchase a new pair of AirPods 2, I noticed there is a new lightning cable inside the box so I think about it why not try this new cable to the Apple CarPlay the cable might be the issue, and it worked curse out the lagging and no wood issue is due to the lightning cable. I have a been using the original Apple lightning cable in the CarPlay format iPhone XS Max and that it has no issue but it won’t work with Apple 11 Pro Max I do not know the reason, The result is just a go buy a new lightning cable from Apple directly the chip inside the cable might be updated in the works with iPhone 11 Pro Max and Apple CarPlay perfectly

I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee & my iPhone 10 worked perfectly, without a glitch. This pro max does not stay connected. A simple bump in the road disconnects it. Very frustrated. The store near me wanted to charge me $99 & replace my phone on Apple Care but I know this is a problem with the phone. It connects, I hit a bump & it says, no device connected. Would you like to pair a device. Ugh!!!! I’ve done every update thinking that one of the updates will fix the issue.

I have not had the 13.2.2 running long enough to say it solved the problem; but so far so good.

I HOPE the answer will NEVER be to buy an Apple cable. Not enough options; too much$$ and why would they create the MFC cert if they didn’t abide by it?

Make sure you have the latest OS. And I’ve found restarting more than once after an update is a good thing.

I agree with you that we should not pay money for this issue, but compare with the hassles and inconvenience, buying a new cable might just be the easiest/fastest way before Apple release a new version of iOS (I personal tested, until 13.3, issue still exist)

my old cable is not even a MFI cable. It’s an authentic lighting cable

before I use the New cable, I tried to upgrades iPhone 11 Pro Max to iOS 13.3 beta, and the issue still exist, I tried reboot both CarPlay and phone servers times, the issue still there: the CarPlay is extremely lagging, the refresh rate is like 2 FPS, the input lap is about 10 seconds.

the tricky part is: I have been using the Apple authentic light cable which coming from iPhone X box all along, works perfectly with my iPhone X, XS MAX, 11 as of today. But does not works with 11 pro max.

since using a new cable from AirPods 2 (still a USB A to lighting) solved the issue, I assume that Apple has upgraded their chip set OR code in recent manufactured usb A to lighting cable, which 11 pro max can only works with the new cable

Nov 15, 2019 5:40 PM in response to acbme

first of all, my problem solved, with a new lighting cable from AirPods 2 box, 11 pro max works flawlessly with CarPlay now.

Please see below are my answer:

1) 11 pro max running 13.2 and 13.2.2 and 13.3, all of them are not working with CarPlay with old lighting cable

2) I just have my 11 pro max for 1 week, before this, I have my XS MAX, and works flawless with CarPlay

3) my Apple CarPlay is after market, never been upgraded. and to my best knowledge, Apple CarPlay device is just mirroring the iOS system, like a TV receive signal through HDMI cable from a XBOX. Therefore, there’s no need to upgrade your CarPlay device

just go buy a new lighting cable, try it, then let me know how this works for you.

Thanks!

CAR PLAY FIXED!

I have been so frustrated with car play since I upgraded to the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Kept thinking with every update that the problem would be fixed. My iPhone 10 worked great.

NOTE: I worked with a guy at my Apple Store & he gave me a new lightning cable right off the wall & since I plugged it in to my car I have had no trouble with car play. I had tried several old cords & they did not work. There must be something different with the newer cords. I was lucky to have been given a new cord but would have been so worth the $19 plus tax to have this issue fixed. Try it! You have 14 days to return the cable if it doesn’t work. Hope this helps!
