Iphone 11 Pro Max and Carplay not working

I have the new iPhone 11 Pro Max and a 2018 Nissan Maxima with carplay. Carplay worked with my previous Iphone X even after the IOS 13 upgrade but with the Iphone 11 Pro Max carplay just keeps saying it won't start and retries again. Any ideas?

Found a solution here. Please buy a USB male to type c female converter. Use that to connect with the type c lightening cable comes with the iPhone 11. It works immediately when I plug in.

It is the software and hardware compatibility issue. This could be a fix before the official solution comes out.

I am having the same issue! It’s maddening! It’s so intermittent. I’ll plug it in I’ll even hear audio play from my phone to my car. The projection button doesn’t change into CarPlay. It will eventually change if once I hear audio I press the projection button then on my phone quickly once I press that button click the side button and the CarPlay splash screen pops up on my phone. I’ve never had this many issues with CarPlay before on my iPhone XS Max. I only have issues with my iPhone 11 Pro Max and my car is a 2017 Chevy Malibu. Please help Apple!

My iPhone XS worked great with CarPlay through all of the iOS 13 betas and with the release of iOS 13, then I got my 11 pro. Nothing but problems with CarPlay since I have received it. I thought 13.1.2 had fixed my issue at first but it’s still very hit or miss. I have a 2015 Silverado and 2015 Suburban I am using CarPlay in. I hope this gets figured out soon. So frustrating. I have bought some male usb type a to female Usb type c adapters that will be here tomorrow to hopefully fix my issue (as some other have mentioned) before Apple finally fixes this issue for good.

I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox and use Carplay daily - I never had a problem with my iPhoneXs Max. Last Friday, I got the iPhone11 Pro Max and it connects maybe 10% of the time. I've changed out 4 cables, reset my phone (lost all my apps, etc), renamed my phone, reset the infotainment system in my car (so annoying) -- still NOTHING. This is so frustrating! I just ordered (thanks Amazon for one-day shipping) a USB c adapter to try as one user suggested on here. The adapter is my final test!

I am so frustrated! If the adapter doesn't work, I'l sending back the phone and getting an Galaxy Note 10.

Occasionally mine will do that too, but I just keep unplugging it and plugging it back in instead of doing all of that and it eventually starts working 80% of the time again. Leaves me questioning if those extra steps are even necessary or if it just has fits of stubbornness once in a while and eventually stops doing it on its own.

I'm on 13.1.2, but have not tried 13.2 beta. That's just about the only thing I haven't tried. It's working just enough for me in 13.1.2 for me to not want to try that (yet.)

Changing the name of my iPhone seems to have worked for me.

My phone was set up as new (because I could not get it to restore from my iTunes back up - another irritating bug!), but I gave it the same name as my previous phone. I consistently had the problems outlined in this thread. I just renamed the phone to something different a couple of days ago and CarPlay now starts just fine in my Nissan LEAF.

Same problem with 2019 Subaru Outback. Took to dealer to update cars firmware. 10/20/19. Still won’t play Spotify or audiobooks through CarPlay on new iPhone 11. Plugged in my old iPhone 6s with a cheap cable and brand new apple cable from my new iPhone 11. No Problem!! Both cables with the old phone work fine. Tried the iPhone 11. Nothing works. Apple this is a real problem. You need to fix it.

Hey,

I would try a couple things.

  1. Try a reset on your phone, if that doesn't work try a ''hard reset''. Could possibly just need a fresh reboot.
  2. Add something to the carplay that it knows and unsync it and try with the iPhone you are trying to pair. Sometimes you can trick the software.
  3. Check the manual on the car and their might be a trick to it.

I have to "trick" my wifes van into reading the iPhone cause it tries to pair anything but iPhones. Little did I know that if you switch the language to GERMAN it works. No lie!

Hope this helps.

It sucks that Apple either doesn't have a clue, or doesn't care that they released an untested, unproven product in the market.

I can only get iPhone 11 IOS 13.2.2 to work as expected when fully charged.. Not 95%, not 98%, nor 99%, but 100% charged.

So, does that make it a bandwidth issue as has been suggested, or a cable related electronics issue?

I suspect Apple may already know that they may have to replace all the iPhone 11 cables which have been distributed to date..

I’m guessing that it has something to do with the fast charging capability of the iPhone. It might be pulling too much or not enough when it needs power, messes up with the CarPlay connection.

From my experience, running Waze, and Google Play Music disconnects the CarPlay connection (even with usb-c female adapter). For now, I’ve used strictly Apple Maps and Apple Music and it works find.🤞🏼

Has anyone here joined Apple Beta program? Where you install a beta version of the iOS and report bugs (specifically this issue) on the daily? I think this is the best way to address this IMO.
