Safari / web browsing problem: iPad OS13

After updating my iPad Air 2 to the latest 13.1, my safari no longer works. It show all websites as a glitchy mess of pixels, each site looks different and they’re all messed up. Have the same issue on other browsers, Firefox and Tor, on the same device, only after the update.

anyone else?? Help much appreciated.

Hi, I know it's soooo frustrating. Took my iPad to the genius bar yesterday, they suggested full back up then reset and erase the iPad and set up as a new iPad when it's resets then log in with icloud ID and let it re download all your apps. Really I thought? I'm trying now, takes forever! Notice 13.1.2 is also out now, 3 versions is a week, must be full problems. In the past I've always resisted an upgrade for at least a month to allow things to settle down, big mistake updating straight away this time. Shambles IMHO.

Ach. Sorry to hear it. It's definitely a slow process.

So I've done

  • a complete fresh reinstall
  • signed in with a different (unused on iPad / iPhone) Apple ID
  • didn't do any backups or load any existing data - completely fresh install
  • went to Safari and checked it out: still the same problem, glitches, mess etc.
  • The problem is so bad that I can't even use any apps that require a web-based login.
  • Example: downloaded an Adobe program, but it required I use my Adobe sign-in. This launched the sign in screen which glitched out because it was connected to the web, even though it was being launched in a web-browser, just natively within-app.

It's very disappointing to see such a poor quality release get through, if that is indeed the problem. Best of luck sorting yours out franklind, I'll message you if I find any kind of fix. All the best.

Safari remains the #1 problem on my iPad 5th generation. I’ve used Safari for over a decade ...was always smooth, controls always smartly intuitive. Like Facebook I think they are over engineering user controls and slamming us with 3rd party link-ups. . If it ain’t broke don’t over-fix it.

My list:

  1. Safari pages suddenly zoom or bleed over top of bowser margin
  2. web sites jump
  3. Search results freeze
  4. mobile desktop request doesn’t help anything (it used to)
  5. Safari functions have been redesigned and are spread all over the place

My failed fixes::

  1. reset zoom
  2. restarted multiple times, sometimes works for a while then blotto again
  3. emptied cache
  4. followed Apple suggestions except for the dreaded reset.. Never had to to that in past years.

Yep same thing, so many issues with OS 13 on my 2017 iPad Pro, Safari not working correctly, battery drain is off the scale, screen rending problems, iBooks not working, apps freezing randomly. Another classic dump it out and let everyone test it approach from a company not half of what it was 5 years ago. Such a shame when a company lets itself fall apart like this. In frustration 12 months ago I bought a Microsoft Surface Pro, beats the Apple products hands down and I'm no Microsoft fan believe me.

Hey, thanks man, appreciate the answer.

Ok, this sounds consistent. Everything web-connected seems to use the Safari engine at least in some tiny way, so this issue really messes up the iPad.

Anyway so I tried:

  • Press and hold down the sleep/wake button while pressing and holding down the Home button at the same time.
  • Ignore the Slide to Power Off slider when it appears
  • Continue to hold down both buttons until the iPad restarts and the Apple logo is visible in the middle of the

screen.

At this point I let go, which in my understanding, equals a reset.

I have ALSO tried going into factory reset mode, connecting via iTunes and factory resetting from there. No difference, same problem.

Really appreciate your thoughts / anyone who reads this. Best of luck to anyone trying to fix it.

Hey, thanks for your answer. Sorry that you're experiencing the same issues – but also selfishly happy that I'm not on my own here! I feel like maybe this is a hardware acceleration issue that renders all web based protocols a glitched up, tetris-y mess. I have tried complete fresh factory reboots, data and settings resets, different browsers – the problem persists and it's everywhere.

Starting to wonder if I'll ever get my iPad back. You are absolutely right about Microsoft. I'm a Mac user since 1994. I cam over to Mac because they did all the things back then that Microsoft seem to be doing right now: innovating, and putting humans first.
