AirPod issues since I got my iPhone 11 Pro

Hi all - I got an iPhone 11 Pro on release day and have been having issues ever since with my AirPods. The problem that I am facing is only with using them for talking. I can hear audio fine, including music, etc, but when I try talking people can only occasionally hear me. I have reverted back to using EarPods the past week or so, so that I am able to talk on the phone.

Any ideas? I have updated to 13.1.2 and the issue still exists.

The problem isn't something that can be solved by swapping out for another pair. My development team has tried 3 different sets of AirPod Pros. All of them break-up on voice calls. Expectations are met when playing audio. No falloffs, static, or interference. Phone calls do use a different bluetooth codec that when listening to music, but this isn't the issue here.

I have connected all 3 AirPod Pros to iPhone 8 and iPhone XR and all of them met expectation on voice calls. Connect them to iPhone PRO and all phone are useless. Those on calls complained about breaking up and static which is something similar to issues with electromagnetic interference.

The lates software update released this month has no impact on this. Restored to purchasing latest AirPods and no issues whatsoever on voice calls. Do not recommend a buy for users with latest iPhone 11 Pros until there is a tested fix. Drop Apple some feedback on their website. Otherwise great sound and reasonable noice cancellation.

Same issue. Forget cleaning and all the other suggestions. It's definitely an engineering issue. Here's my findings:

Yes, my problem has the same symptoms. I can connect to a call fine for about the first 10 minutes, but after 10-12 minutes, I hear digital/Bluetooth interference. The resolution is to switch to speaker or iphone audio. This did not happen on my old phone and has only been a problem since I upgraded to iPhone 11 in January 2020. I would love it if all of my phone calls and conference calls ended in 10 minutes or less, but that's not reality.

Very well said. We did test the Sony - WF-1000XM3 and had no issues with them using iPhone 11 Pro models during our conference call and personal calls. I personally felt these were too heavy and large for use but the noise cancelling and sound was excellent! Not sure if this turns out to be magnetic interference can be solved with software updates so thinking I might return mine until the issue is sorted out. For those not needing them for voice calls meets the need but if you're planning on using them for voice calls and have and iPhone 11 Pro., yikes!

I do like the thought though of not having conference calls longer than 10 minutes. Maybe it's a feature?

I have the same issue with my Iphone 11 Pro & Airpods 1st gen. i have spoke to more than 10 Apple advisors including seniors and visited Apple store thrice. They don’t have any good resolution, all they offered me was swap the phone. But i don’t think thats the answer.

So, i’m working with Apple Senior Advisor team, and i installed profile on my phone where i remember the exact timestamp when the issue happen again, call

them they ll get the Logs from that profile and send it to Engineering team.

i suggest everyone here in the forum who is having issues please take some time and call the care, ask for Senior advisor and explain what i said and follow the steps, it will help us.

I will keep posting the updates.

Thank you,

LK

LK. That’s all great however this is a known issue which appear on the bench with more sophisticated test equipment than at our disposal. I have pulled down the files and run them through our tools but there’s nothing measuring EMI which along with noise canceling is the culprit. All of the ideas mentioned in this forum have no reedy for the direct cause. If it’s a component or hw design issue Apple won’t update us. If it’s tweaking sw they have the bench tools to do it. More noise or pressure isn’t going to add any value nor will nor log files:

Same, bought iPhone11 (not Pro) 9and even though I owned AirPods series 2, I bought the Pro version also) and stuttering after 5 or 10, or 15 minutes on phone call. no real specific time limit. I own both AirPod series 2 and AirPod Pros... BOTH MY OLD SET AND NEW SET HAVE PROBLEMS ONLY WHEN Using THE IPHONE11 on phone calls. The problem didn’t start until the iPhone11.

I can’t say for sure it’s not the AirPods, but my series 2 had no problem with my iphone8.. and now BOTH my old and new AirPods stutter during phone calls? This is a HUGE problem and APPLE support would not even acknowledge there is a problem.. reset AirPods, reset phone, etc. NOTHING HAS HELPED, I REPEAT NOTHING HAS HELPED from Apple.. I spent a lot of money and use my phone for business... this is total nonsense they haven’t been able to fix this.

I am having the same issue. I have spent 3 hours of my life that I will never get back at the genius bar. They ended up swapping out my 11 pro for a new one, that I set up as new lest it be a software issue. This did not solve the problem. Originally the problem was with the AirPod 1st gen, then I ordered AirPod Pro and had the same issue so returned those since I also just didn't like them and got the AirPod 2nd gen (I think-wireless charging case) and still have the problem. I then swapped with my husband for the 11 pro max and the problem still exists! So I've been through a total of 3 phones and 3 different versions of AirPods. Same as everyone else it is only when talking on the phone, works flawlessly for movies, videos, music or books. The 1st gen AirPods have been with be through at least 3 other versions of iPhone and never had one issue!

@kappy the problem is that Apple doesnt know how to fix it! I spent 3 1/2 hours in the store where they attempted to figure it out. I had already been through AirPod Gen 1, 2 and Pro by then and had the same problem on all. Apple eventually swapped out my phone that I then set up as new in case of software issue. SAME PROBLEM!! Traded phones with my husband for his pro max and SAME PROBLEM! Apple seems to be unaware of how to fix it! But many of us in this thread have spent countless hours trying to no avail!
