Bluetooth keyboard lags badly when bluetooth mouse is also connected

As noted in my case where I use a physical mechanical mini keyboard, things improve when BT keyboard is connected before the mouse, so it is bearable if I remember every time to connect the keyboard first. So try that if you haven’t already. I know It is not a final solution. My BT keyboard, even when connected before the mouse, it still tends drop and misbehave more than it should. This means I have to disconnect the mouse and reconnect the keyboard and the mouse again. It is really a pain in the butt. Apple should really look into this buggy bluetooth keyborad issue.

Short update from my side: after three appointments at the genius bar, many backups, re-setting the ipad many times, having to buy a new keyboard (gave it back) I finally got a new ipad pro (512GB)... the result is: it is still not working! So if anyone from apple is reading this, please find a software solution and fix this issue because is costing the company quite some money and a lot of frustration for the customers!

Please can apple support officially confirm (tracking no.) that this is an open issue?

I also notice that the blue tooth devices (keyboard and mouse ) show up, in both accessibility and bluetooth settings. Should this be? Also, why does the Bluetooth keyboard show-up under pointing devices in accessibility? Shouldn’t it just be pointing devices, like the Bluetooth mice.?😀

you are also correct about using usb mice and keyboard. They work perfectly fine, without issues. I wonder if may be, because of the different version of Bluetooth. Mouse is 4.0 and keyboard is 3.0🤔

Mine is now working, both of bluetooth mouse & keyboard. The trick is that you forget the bluetooth mouse (go to setting/ bluetooth/ click on your bluetooth mouse and forget device), then pair the bluetooth mouse again. Now it should work smoothly. I noticed that when I used both of bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and pair with another airpods listening to music, the lag happens again or when charging the ipad. Then I forget device and repair and everything's ok.

I do have the same problem

I noticed that when i disconnect my apple pencil that problem goes away

first disconnect apple pencil

turn bluetooth off and wait 5 seconds and turn back on

now should work properly

you can reconnect the apple pencil again and it should work without any lag

(if lag happened , turn bluetooth off and on again and all three devices will work with no lag

but this fixes the problem for several hours and you’ll need to do this again until they fix it with an update

I am also having this problem with an Ipad Pro 2018 running on the latest iPadOS version and it is very frustrating!

I have 2 bluetooth keyboards, both working fine with my Iphone 8 as well as with my iPad Air 2 (sold in the meantime, before updating to iPadOS).

With the Ipad Pro it is always a problem, sometimes they works, but mostly not (sometimes with huge lag, sometimes not at all). I tried rebooting the ipad, installing/de-installing the keyboards, erasing the networks settings and also run a software check (with no errors found), but nothing seems to help. It seems that the ipad or the ipadOS has general connectivity problems which are not been addressed correctly making the experience quite poor. I mean, connectivity is key in 2019!

Please solve this problem because it makes impossible to use the ipad as a serious working tool!

I am super fed up with all the recent issues as I am loosing a lot of productive time! I am seriously considering switching to another platform.

Hey Guys, since I've changed my mouse to Microsoft Surface, all my problems gone.

Ist this an advertisement for your blog or for the Microsoft Surface mouse? I don‘t get it!

The tread is about issues in connecting a bluetooth keyboard and I really hope that the solution is not to buy a mouse, which I don‘t even need!

However, it might be that the Surface mouse is less „heavy“ on the bluetooth allowing for better parallel connectivity with other devices, thanks for this information!

I did some more test... I get stable connection only rebooting the ipad or by resetting the networks connections (loosing all stored wifi settings), both ways are quite time consuming! The connection is than stable, no lag at all, but this lasts for only a some hours, and as long as I don‘t change the Wifi connection or add additional devices.

This also means that the connectivity via bluetooth can work fine but it gets kind of jammed over the time. Sounds like a software issue to me.

Nope, it’s not an advertisement. I found this bug and couldn’t solve it for a while. I tried to use many different BT keyboards & mouses but without any luck. MS mouse is probably one of many solutions to solve this bug. Primary I wanted to use my Belkin keyboard + Magic Mouse 1, but currently it’s not possible due to the huge lags.

Hey, I noticed that you need to connect the keyboard first, then connect the mouse. I actually reported this problem during the beta phase of iPad test back in September, but this problem remains there. If you connect the mouse first, all kinds of problems start. When you attach mouse first, the cmd+tab simply doesn't work like it is supposed to, it is not just a lag. So I repeatedly have to turn off my mouse and then connect bluetooth keyboard and then reconnect the mouse.

I know it’s not the best option, but as I mentioned earlier - I’ve changed my mouse to Microsoft Surface using real BT connection without any dongle. Problem is gone. All of my BT case keyboards are working fine without any problems.
