Cannot load photo (There was an error loading this photo)

I get this message whenever I try to edit a photo in my camera roll. I do not have iCloud enabled and can’t seem to find any decent solutions around the forums. I’ve tried restarting my device. I have this issue for lots of pictures. It is only when I click edit. One in particular has a mark on it that I wanted to touch up but it will not let me. Please help

Yes Snapseed worked for me by saving a copy. Messaging a photo to myself and then saving said photo worked as well.

Hope this helps.

None of my photos from my Canon and Sony cameras loaded in Photos nor could I edit them, unless I used Snapseed or messaged the photo to myself.

But since the latest update iOS13.3 I noticed that any new photo I imported to my Photos, the photo was able to be opened and edited.

There were still many of my Canon and Sony photos that wouldn't load, open or able to be edited even with the latest update. So what I did, I deleted all those photos which I had uploaded to my iPhone from iCloud.com. These photos remained a problem and I was getting tired of waiting for a fix!

Once I updated to iOS 13.3 I then re uploaded my Canon and Sony photos to my iPhone via iCloud.com and these photos now open. Even my Photoshop artwork opens in Photos, which they used to in iOS 12. iOS 13 screwed everything up.

I don't know how long Apple engineers will take to fix that bug which seems to affect some photos after the iOS 13 update. The support team contacted me a couple of weeks ago and still no fix and no news.

miah12_ dskldkld Last I heard from Apple Support in mid December, was that they was no news on the bug. The Apple Support person basically said it was in Apple Engineers' hands and they would inform Support of any news.

I emailed my Support person just prior to Christmas and I got the same response.

I only found by the latest update iOS13.3 that my issue was resolved. I have no idea, but I suspect Apple was pushing the last two updates to see if the issue was fixed.

I've hear from others that the update fixed some, not others.

This is what happened to my situation since the iOS 13.3 upgrade.

  1. My photos can now be loaded and edited and sent to Instagram or any other app.
  2. Any Canon or Sony photos which I've uploaded prior to update iOS 13.3 via www.icloud.com will not open in my Photos. I still get the error message Cannot load Photo.
  3. So, to fix that, I deleted all my Canon and Sony photos from www.icloud.com which were all uploaded prior to iOS 13.
  4. Then I re-uploaded my Canon and Sony photos to www.icloud.com and these will now load and can be edited and sent to Instagram or any other app.

Hope this makes sense and hope that it helps others.

I will still keep on Apple's back about a response to the bug report filed but to be honest I don't think I will get one.

I FIXED IT .

1) make space on iPhone . About 10gb or more . Delete or offload apps or clear caches

2) sign in to iCloud on a web browser to make sure the photos are still there , and Accessible.

3) sign out of iCloud on iPhone . Then sign in again

4) on and off the phone .

5) now the photos should start loading . Be patient

I restarted my iPhone twice and it didn’t work . Repeat all steps and it worked on my third restart.

seems like a syncing / back up issue

Feanne Yes, that's the workaround I use as well. I also found that I can use the 'Snapseed' editing photo app to open the photo from my Photo Library and edit the photo that way.

I received another phone call today and was assured that the engineers were looking into the bug but they haven't reported their findings back to my Apple Support person as yet.

I will update when I have news. :)
