Mail app leaving blank spaces

Hello I was wondering if anyone knows how to get rid of the blank messages in the mail app. After I delete some of my messages they tend to stay around but now are blank. I am not able to delete them over again. It will not let me do anything with them.

Hi gjposton,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. From my understanding, it sounds like you see blank space in the Mail app after email messages are deleted. I’d love to assist you.

For this issue, I recommend connecting to another reliable network to see if the issue persists. I see that your iPhone is connected via Personal Hotspot. Try turning Personal Hotspot off in the Settings app, then connecting to a reliable Wi-Fi network. It's possible that your device's connection is preventing Mail from updating as quickly as expected.

If the issue persists, I recommend taking steps 1-3 here: If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open. Force quitting the Mail app, restarting your iPhone, and checking for updates can help resolve the issue.

Lastly, consider how your email is synced to your iPhone. Is it via a web email account, or are they synced with another device (i.e. iPad or Mac)?  If so, check to see if the issue continues when deleting emails from your other device or from web mail.

I hope this information was useful. Kind regards.

I was getting the same thing as too. I dont know if I fixed it or not but I can walk you trough getting rid of the blank spaces. First you need to delete the Iphone mail app. Then you need to re-download and install. Next go into your accounts go back in and turn mail back on for google, outlook, ... ect.

At least that gets rid of the annoying blank spaces not sure if it is a long term fix yet.

Same problem for me. Struggling with this for weeks now. Decided to upgrade IOS, so using mail app on iPhone. IOS 13.3, iPhone X and yahoo email. Blanks have come back. Strange that before, If I viewed all inboxes, the blanks were there. If I only viewed the yahoo inbox in mail, the blanks disappeared......now it doesn’t matter what I do, the blanks don’t go away. Tried removing the yahoo account and putting it back......works ok for a while, then the blanks return. Surely Apple can get this fixed???

I have this issue on with my .att/yahoo account, Gmail seems okay. Here's a fix on an Xr:

Settings>Passwords & Accounts>select affected account>toggle "mail off", wait 10 sec>toggle "mail on">exit settings>open mail>refresh(swipe down)>should be good.

Option (if above struggles): toggle "mail off">exit settings>settings>PW & Accounts>select affected account>toggle "mail on">exit settings>open mail and refresh.

I find it incredibly frustrating that this community specialist has marked this as solved simply because he responded. As you can see it is not resolved. There are two ways to resolve this:

1) Allow your customers to choose which default email client they are allowed to use as opposed to dictating that we must use Mail

2) Fix the display issue, this only occurs with my gSuite account, my iCloud account is perfectly fine. I've done everything that has been noted in this thread however nothing actually works. This issue was not there prior to iOS 13 so I suspect it is something within the sync/fetch setting that is causing the issue.

When I delete my accounts from mail, restart my phone and add the accounts back its perfectly fine for about an hour than it comes back. this is incredibly frustrating as I have no confidence if the Apple Mail client has properly downloaded my work email onto my device.

Can someone at Apple please properly investigate this and advise what the issue is.

My wife has been having the same blanks issue with SKY mail on her iPhone 6s as well as the blue unread dot not clearing when mail has been read.

I checked the settings and there was a GMAIL account that was inactive.

I activated it and everything seems Hunky Dory at the moment. No blanks and Unread dot disappearing.

Let's hope it lasts.

She has these SKY and GMAIL accounts active on her laptop via Mozilla Thunderbird.

Maybe having GMAIL inactive on the iPhone only caused the confusion.

Folks, obviously the “tech” did a drive by answer and there has been no one follow through. Not even to acknowledge thus is more widespread, and just not a specific email acct. At least someone should pop in to say they know about it and working to find the flaw (with software this complicated, changing code isn’t always a simple fix).

this is being not just ignored, but forgotten. Higher ups likely don’t know terrestrial an issue. For starters find various forums, any and all to report this. If Apple senses future upgrades may lessen, maybe the response will be more concerted.

Another thing to try is begin a new thread. Maybe somebody, more conscientious may jump in. I think most customer service reps (obviously they are not techs) are just managing small fires with a check list. They hit resolved and move on. No one oversees them.

only squeaking wheels get the grease.
