Hello I was wondering if anyone knows how to get rid of the blank messages in the mail app. After I delete some of my messages they tend to stay around but now are blank. I am not able to delete them over again. It will not let me do anything with them.

I have this issue on with my .att/yahoo account, Gmail seems okay. Here's a fix on an Xr:
Settings>Passwords & Accounts>select affected account>toggle "mail off", wait 10 sec>toggle "mail on">exit settings>open mail>refresh(swipe down)>should be good.
Option (if above struggles): toggle "mail off">exit settings>settings>PW & Accounts>select affected account>toggle "mail on">exit settings>open mail and refresh.
This worked for me. Appears to be a bug with the Organize by Thread option on IMAP accounts. I use a personal IMAP server and have seen this problem for months.

I think it's a bug in the Mail app. I've tried deleting my email account (AT&T) and then putting it back. It's ok for one session, but the next time it fetches my mail and me deleting the messages, the blank space comes back. It doesn't happen with my gmail and outlook apps. I'm on a wi-fi connection at home, by the way.
It’s not an apple issue- I had it happening in my Samsung phone phone and it was one of the reasons I switched back to Apple... but it still happens. I delete the mail app and
reinstall at least once/wk to get rid of the spaces
I had the same issue until I deleted all the flagged emails. The spaces are gone now.
I have the same problem on IOS 13.1.2 iPad Pro 3rd generation. Only happened since last IOS update. I have restarted iPad, reinstalled mail app to no avail. Does not do it on iMac OSX. Does not do it on 2012 iPad 4 because it won’t update past 10.2 and Lo! Everything works.
C’mon Apple 1 month is too long to issue a fix for an obvious bug.
It worked for a day or two and then it went back to leaving the blank spaces it’s definitely not a permanent fix. I downloaded Edison mail server and it really works great I’ve given up on the Apple Mail app
Nope, I had to delete/recreate my Yahoo inbox which fixed it for a while. However I'm now experiencing issues where occasionally I receive no email for a day or so, even though I'm refreshing my inbox and I have a good internet connection over either WIFI or 4G. Using the Yahoo App confirms there is email coming in. Seems to fix itself though.
Also, the gaps in emails in my inbox continues from time to time. Last week when I opened my inbox I started to see the emails load up on the inbox list, one by one (took a couple of secs for each to appear).
If anything I'd say that things are getting worse, with a wider range of problems occurring which the organise by thread soon doesn't fix.
I am having the same problem. I deleted my account completely and reinstalled and this initially removed the gaps but now I am having gaps again.
Thank you for your suggestions. I tried all of them none of them are working though. The messages have all deleted on my iPad, Mac and even main account on regular computers but not on my phone. I reset my password and now I cannot login on any of my devices it just keeps saying error. But I can login on the computer through outlook.
I contacted Apple Support and I sent them some screenshots. They’re going to send it to engineering and they’ll study it. They’ll get back to me by Wednesday and, if necessary, get some log files from me.
I’m having the same issue I’ve been on the phone with Apple at least five times they say they’ve never heard of this happening. I finally thought it was fixed during the last update because the space problem did not happen for four days and then this morning it happened again and even though I have deleted and reinstalled my emails the problem arises every time it seems ridiculous that Apple cannot solve this problem. I’ve also never had This issue and any other iPhone until I got the 11 pro max
I have the same issue. So frustrating. I have deleted my mail account 20 times and reloaded it. The blank email issue always returns. Sometimes before this happens I stop getting updates on my emails.
I ahve at least 6 calls into Apple support and there is still no resolution.

Happening to me too - and I just did the latest update here on 12/16, restarted my phone, and they are still there. So, it's an issue that needs to be investigated and addressed by apple! This is a new issue, as well.
Same problem for me. Struggling with this for weeks now. Decided to upgrade IOS, so using mail app on iPhone. IOS 13.3, iPhone X and yahoo email. Blanks have come back. Strange that before, If I viewed all inboxes, the blanks were there. If I only viewed the yahoo inbox in mail, the blanks disappeared......now it doesn’t matter what I do, the blanks don’t go away. Tried removing the yahoo account and putting it back......works ok for a while, then the blanks return. Surely Apple can get this fixed???
Same issue for me on my iPhone XS - still. I have now deleted and reinstalled the affected (Yahoo) mail account several times and the blanks keep coming back. My other email accounts through Outlook and Gmail remain unaffected. Could Apple please get round to fixing this?
