It is 12th of December 2019 at the time of writing this. I was not able to use macOs High Sierra anymore to factory reset iPhone 6S Plus in DFU mode. I had to upgrade my macbook pro laptop macOS to Maverics in order to bypass error 4010. I was not successful using Windows 10 Home either.

AppStore of macOS High Sierra did not offer any updates for iTunes. AppStore did not initially provide any updates for iTunes just after upgrading to Maverics was complete either. I plugged in my genuine Apple Lightning to USB cable to my iPhone 6S Plus phone while iTunes application was open on macOS Maverics. At this point iTunes gave me an information box that the iTunes application needs to download updates. I assume updates for iTunes application itself because it closed and relaunched after completing the download. There was a brief "validating with Apple" style of information on top part of the iTunes application displayed at the point of process where the error 4010 had previously jumped in.

My conclusion is that error code 4010 could also be interpreted as "Unfortunatelly you seem to be one of our customers prone to drag down the speed of information technology development. We want you to buy all of our latest models of equipment at least every second year - with happy face of course."

I do not know which I would be more pleased. To see the second coming of Jesus or Steve Jobs raising from the dead.

I was having this problem while attempting to restore a prehistoric iPad 2 on Windows 10 pro. Due to this thread I tried turning off my private and public firewalls, to no avail. It did eventually work when I turned off domain firewall, private and public firewall, real-time and cloud-delivered antivirus protection. I'm unsure which of those additional three did the trick, but it did work.

The problem started when I tried to install the new iOS. Already tried restoring the phone with all antivirus and firewall protections turned off. Must try finding another computer. Was going to try with my old Dell, but it's too old, I'm unable to upgrade iTunes without the computer freezing up. Thanks for your suggestions.

The first time I tried turning off firewall and antivirus it didn’t work. Then I turned off domain firewall, private and public firewall, real-time and cloud-delivered antivirus protection and it worked. All of those settings were in the windows 10 “windows security” settings under two tabs, firewall and network protections, and virus and threat protections.

Hey, i had this error as well.

After hours of searching for a solution and found nothing i just tried something simple which at least worked for me.

At the begging when i was getting this error i had downloaded itunes from microsoft store.

Then i decided to test out downloading itunes from a random internet page and that solved the problem for me!

Hi, I literally went through every possible solution suggested in this thread. Uninstall/reinstall itunes, turn off firewall, update Windows... to no avail. The only solution that worked for me was to Google "unlock ipad without itunes". There are a bunch of (predominantly Chinese) companies that do this for you, but I could not find one that was free. The lowest price I could find was for £25 (29USD). Someone with more patience may find a cheaper and/or free software - if so, do reply here for the next person. All I can say is that it took about 10 minutes and worked a treat. I would leave the name of the company here, but wouldn't want peeps to think is a fake review.

So having this error its really annoying that the company who created a great device has so many restrictions on this. Error 4010 is brick error meaning that it might not even work i hate this so much

If you had taken the time to read the thread you posted to you would know that this error shows a problem with your computer’s USB port or software driver. And solutions are included in the thread.

I ran into this when trying to DFU an iPhone 6 Plus, and thought for a minute that I'd bricked the **** thing.

In order to get a restore to successfully run, I had to disable not only Windows 'security', but also my 3rd party antivirus (BitDefender). Once all that was shut down, the restore finally ran successfully.

Now we'll see if a DFU reset will make it quit eating battery even in Airplane mode...
