Hi Everyone. There is another (short) post regarding same issue. It's called "AW Cellular S3 Nike - Call Failed every time... A solution was posted on that string that worked for me as I can now answer calls on my watch. It states:

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone, and turn off Wi-Fi Calling and Calls on Other Devices.

In the Watch app on your iPhone, go to My Watch > General > Enable Handoff, and disable Handoff.

Restart both devices, then turn these features back on.

Here's more about Wi-Fi Calling and how calls are delivered to other devices:

Make and receive calls on your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Make a call with Wi-Fi Calling - Apple Support

Let me know if this works, test while connected and not connected to Wi-Fi.

Good luck.

It’s more than “depressing”. It’s a SHAME. Apple support has bounced me from an advisor to another. I’ve spent hours providing infos, diagnostic files... Hours! Apple consider my time’s value zero, apparently. Apple still ignore or minimize the huge impact this bug has on our devices. Since september! We can’t use them as advertised (and as we payed for). My Apple Watch works at 10%now. Almost useless. Since 3 months. And apple’s answer is: it’s your problem. We have to raise our voice. It’s our right! This silence is not acceptable from a brand who speaks about rights, dignity. There’s no dignity in treating customers like this.

Hi illusion513! I have thought about the same thing and came to your same conclusion. These are all unresearched points on my part, but...

I think Apple Watch owners represent, on average, a more technology "invested" subset of Apple product owners...and a more affluent subset.

Such people tend to upgrade their phones more often and so there is not a lot of iPhones 6s and 6s+ owners who own CELLULAR enabled Apple Watches.

iPhone SE owners are outliers with regard to the above because they do not have an upgraded version of their small form factor iPhone to buy. So they have held onto their SE's like an alligator holds onto its prey.

Who knows what the real reason is, but I don't see how it could be the hardware or software as the two devices, according to everything I have read, are the same device except for their screens, cases, and battery size.

With the highly rumored release of the successor to the SE to be released as soon as March, it will be interesting to see if the number of Apple Watch complaints drops precipitously because these original SE owners will buy the next generation model with modern internals that seem to have no problems with call functionality.

I hope Apple does not consider that a way to solve the problem as I am a larger screen fan and am waiting for the release of the iPhone 12 to finally bid my 6s+ a tender adieu.

Kind regards, Mr. Luigi

Mr. Luigi,

Your points do exactly describe me to a T. I am highly technology invested and affluent. I bought an Apple Watch, and subsequently bought an upgraded version. I bought the most expensive version of the iPhone SE when it came out and today would buy a identical form factor upgrade iPhone even if it cost $1000. I have replaced the battery in my SE, and likely will again as I hear that the SE2 will be a larger form factor. I carry my SE in a Lifeproof case that I replace every year to protect that phone that I consider irreplaceable.

Last year I bought a macbook air and this year I bought the newest iPad (my third).

So maybe you have hit the nail on the head.

I have been able to restore cellular calling. But, I did this before the recent updates. Unfortunately, I went though so many strategies, I don't remember which one worked. But, luckily, the recent updates didn't break anything. Since the SE and 6s series have the same hardware internals, it is puzzling why I "lucked out" and the SE owners have not.

Since Apple appears to be quite disinterested in this problem, maybe we can crowd source some information here to try to narrow down what could be the problem. I don't believe the cellular carrier is the problem, but let's get that out of the way first.

If folks can simply reply with the name of their cellular carrier, we can cross off that as a potential problem.

I've been playing again game "Can you find the problem?" with Apple for about a month now. I tried everything. Hours on the phone with Apple Support. Pairing, evaporation, clean installation, etc. etc. Nothing helps. The latest update does not solve the problem either. It will be 5 MONTHS!!! I've been working with Apple for about 20 years and I've never experienced this before. I don't know what to do more.
