Hi Everyone. There is another (short) post regarding same issue. It's called "AW Cellular S3 Nike - Call Failed every time... A solution was posted on that string that worked for me as I can now answer calls on my watch. It states:

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone, and turn off Wi-Fi Calling and Calls on Other Devices.

In the Watch app on your iPhone, go to My Watch > General > Enable Handoff, and disable Handoff.

Restart both devices, then turn these features back on.

Here's more about Wi-Fi Calling and how calls are delivered to other devices:

Make and receive calls on your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Make a call with Wi-Fi Calling - Apple Support

Let me know if this works, test while connected and not connected to Wi-Fi.

Good luck.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Hi all,

Yesterday I’ve already posted the solution!!! This is what I wrote:

I’ve finally found a solution! Last year I bought an Apple Watch 4 and an iPhone SE for my mother. Since iOS13 the calls via Apple Watch failed.

Here is the solution:

At night my mother is shutting down her Apple Watch to save battery. In the morning she turns on her watch and here is the key. You need to unlock your watch with your iPhone SE instead of dialing the pin code in your Apple Watch!

I can’t believe it but it works. My mother played around a little bit to find this solution. Please try it and reply if it also works for you!

Best regards

Kevin

Hi !

I fixed that right now!

I have iphone 11,ios 13.4 and watch s3 os 6.2

I had this problem and fixed that very easy

like this picture your bluetooth icon must be “blue” !

thats worked for me

When paired your iPhone and watch tap on bluetooth icon and it will be “blue”

make call, your call will not be failed anyway!

I test it for 10 minutes call and it worked!

Same scenario here. Update to 6.2.8 on watch (series 4) and iPhone SE 13.6. At the first try after the update I’ve still experienced the issue. I’ve unpaired and paired my Apple watch and iPhone again and magically everything seems work better.

no call drops, Siri works better (almost ok, at least works!). Sometimes I had AirPods disconnection and when I try to dictate a message I have to try few times...

but I can say there are some improvements.

Since In the past after the updates everything worked but the Issue came back after some hours/days... yes: finger crossed

Got new apple watches for myself and wife last week at the ATT store. I also bought an iPhone 11. My watch appears to work fine. Her phone is an iPhone SE. More often than not hers will show call failed either when receiving or placing a call. Has happened since day 1. Just loaded IOS 13.3 on both phones and IOS 6.1.1 on both watches. Working OK now, but we'll see after some time. Ridiculous on Apple's part that this issue goes unresolved.

Also experienced the same issues (mainly with Siri and HomeKit, which stops working after a little while) on my moms Apple Watch Series 4 paired to an iPhone SE. I got the Watch replaced under AppleCare+ and the replacement Watch shipped with watchOS 5, and is working great with the paired iPhone SE running iOS 13.3. We have not updated her Watch to watchOS 6 yet, since we are certain the issue will return.

The rest of us have an Apple Watch Series 4 (on watchOS 6.1.1) paired to an iPhone 6s and an iPhone X, and are not experiencing these issues.

Whatever the issue with watchOS and a paired iPhone SE, it definitely seems to be watchOS at fault.

Just got off of a chat with apple support. They provided the following advice different from this forum (which worked for me, up-to-date operating systems on IphoneSE and series 5 watch):

"Ok I have found some information on this. Let’s reset your network settings. This will disconnect our chat if we are chatting on the device so if that’s the case, please let me know. We will want to go to Settings, then General, then Reset and tap Reset Network Settings. This won’t remove any data except saved Wi-Fi networks and Wi-Fi passwords. It will reset the cellular connection and the VPN and APN settings"

You perform this reset on your iphone; you don't need to touch anything on your watch.

Support told me to try to disable VoLTE... Can you check if it helped?

In my case it did not.

What i noticed that first call is always failed. When i unlock the phone and then try to call it often works for some time. After some time with (locked phone ) call fails again.

Can you check this scenario:

Locked phone -> try to call from watch...it should fail.

then

unlock phone -> try to call from watch... what results do you have?

then

lock the phone again -> try call from watch...it should work.

then wait 1 hour and try to call from watch with locked phone....i think it will fail to call or the call will be dropped.

I think problem lays in BT authorization of something like that.

Same problem here. It’s completely clear that the problems are caused by the watch OS updates from 6.0. related with the Bluetooth connection. Definitely discarded a hardware issue on the phone or watch. I had 2 AW S4, the last one with watchOS 5.2 paired with iPhone SE iOS 13 working perfectly but after updating watchOS problems appear.

My issues: problems with calls, it looks like the AW is calling but the call doesn’t engage with the phone. Siri is too slow or even unavailable some times. Siri goes crazy in the middle of the answers telling “...Uh Oh Lost connection let me try data again...” Impossible to creat and check reminders from the watch. Impossible to send a WhatsApp to a contact, before watchOS 6.0 I could do that with the AW. Connection problems via Bluetooth with other devices f.e. an external heart rate band monitor.

Old issues solved: watch doesn’t recognize my self, turning impossible to call home or a parents or getting instructions to get home adress.

Talked with support several times, scaling to engineering department, I sent some videos with my issues and also time and date of them. I also report the ghost call bug during a contact by phone with Apple care, I was lucky cause in the first attempt the call doesn’t engage and Apple could track line code to review errors (I am sharing with Apple the analysis of iPhone and AW) but I am still waiting for a response of the engineers.

My main reason to buy Apple products is because they are reliable and everything works perfectly but not any more or at least with the forgotten iPhone SE.

Regards
