Deleting Multiple Images in imessage

In iOS12 you used to be able to easily select multiple images in imessage to delete (hit "i" then go to photos, hold down...more, select all the photos you wanted to, hit delete), with iOS13 it looks like you have to select each picture, then hit delete, confirm delete attachment. Not only that you can only do this for one picture at a time, further attempts to select and delete pictures doesn't work. You have to leave the info screen, go back to the chat, rehit "i" and start all over. Is there a way to select and delete multiple images at one time with the new iOS?

I believe that this is the unethical reason why they removed such a useful feature. They want you to have to upgrade your storage by making it more time-consuming and difficult to delete multiple photos at once. I’m really starting to hate Apple update by update.

No, you have something which became corrupt and perhaps you got it when you updated to iOS 13, but iOS 13 is not the issue. Every device I have is running iOS 13.2.2. None have an issue such as you.

Troubleshooting steps you can try from simple to more complex:

  1. Force close the apps --> How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
  2. Force Restart your iPhone --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
  3. Restore your iPhone from backup --> Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

If nothing helps, then you should schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar for further assistance.

This is what we were talking about. Of course we know how to multiple delete from within the text string but what about the panel/thumbnail view? It used to be so easy to see everything all in one place. Do they expect us to scroll through all our text messages back to the beginning of time? That would take forever. Apple is so counterintuitive on purpose so they can rope you into paying for more iCloud storage but at the end of the day they are being really annoying and not serving the customers needs and wants.

No one from Apple will hear your frustration from posting on this forum, which is user to user only.

I don't have an issue with how it works now that I've fully figured it out. You can delete multiple messages and pictures within a text conversation with the More option and you can now delete as many photos as you want using the Info button.

Thanks for the info, but you raised a philosophical question:

“How to introduce a new bug, which is not due to iOS 13, by simply upgrading the iPhone to iOS 13?”

This is similar to the famous omnipotence paradox:

”Can God create a rock so big that he cannot lift it?”

Since this forum isn’t the best place for philosophical debates, I tried finding a solution to delete multiple pics from a message thread, and I did, although PARTIAL only because some photos simply remain undeleted even after several attempts to delete them! But still better than crashing the Messages app using the regular method:

  1. Click on the icon/initials on the top of the message thread
  2. Click on the “i” (info)
  3. Scroll down to Photos
  4. Click on “See all photos”
  5. Click on “Select” in the top right corner
  6. Select and delete the photos you want

Again, nothing changed about this. You’ve always been able to select multiple texts and attachments for deletion from the texting screen. We are talking about when you press the i in the upper right corner, then see all photos, where you see all your thumbnails. This is the screen where they took away the functionality of being able to select multiple photos for deletion or for saving to your camera roll. You now have to press each photo individually and then select delete from the drop-down menu. It’s truly aggravating and counterintuitive. My point earlier about Apple trying to draw us into purchasing larger iCloud storage plans is directly related to this because I sometimes need to delete the three minute long videos that people send me without having to scroll back through my text messages to 2016 which takes a very long time to let all the messages load. I have also had issues on this screen where I press delete but the photo does not actually delete. See attached photo for the screen I’m talking about.

Thank you for reminding me of this feature in Settings! I've seen it before, but tended to rely on deleting multiple pictures from individual threads. I was able to delete about 95% of my unnecessary used storage all at once & didn't have to go through each of my text threads to find them.

For those out there searching each text thread for pictures you're willing to sacrifice for storage, I would highly recommend this option first. Get rid of those bulky attachments and old random videos (and a million animoji videos & stickers nobody cares about anymore) first. It will save you time & keep you from deleting that sweet picture you can't bear to part with.

It's not MY solution. It's how it works in iOS 13. This is how Apple made it and no one here works for Apple on this user to user only forum.

In terms of deleting email, none of my mail accounts has changed at all for email deletion. Open mail account. Tap Edit. Select the messages you want to delete by tapping each circle, then tap the trash can.

I've honestly never used panel view (not really sure what it is, tbh) and I can't open the link you posted. I evidently need permission. I manage photos directly in a text message. If I don't need to keep the photo's, I delete them there. I really don't see how you correlate this to Apple roping you into buying more iCloud storage.
