Email banners pop up even when Do Not Disturb is enabled

I am presenting from my iPad and even through I enabled Do Not Disturb, I am still getting Gmail notification banners appearing on my screen that the students can see. Does Do Not Disturb block email notifications? Not sure what the purpose of it is if notifications still come through when presenting. Thanks.

I hit “notify anyway” and now my friend keeps getting my notifications even on Do Not Disturb **I am not asking how I can make it so others are unable to “notify anyway” while on do not disturb** My friend is on do not disturb and I accidentally hit “notify anyway” (it’s so damn close to the box where you type into) and now they continue to get my unsilenced notifications. Can I reverse this? They are still on do not disturb and continue to get my notifications. Please do not answer this question by telling me how they can change their focus mode settings to remove “notify anyway” as an option, that isn’t my question!

Can't turn off email notifcations MacOS 12.1 I used to use De Not Disturb all the time. Now I've tried everything to turn off notifications for email, and I am still getting dings for every message. Very annoying. iPhone Do Not Disturb function easy to control. MacBook not at all. What am I dong wrong? Thanks.

That was it- it was only set to when iPad is locked. Thanks!
