I just came of support with Apple and they suggested to restore the iPhone from a Mac or PC. I did a restore before, but directly from my iPhone. Problem is that this does not reinstall the OS. So I did a complete restore from my Mac and reinstalled all my apps manually (don't restore a backup, so yes, it's a pain)...

My first impressions is that everything feels much snappier. I haven't encountered any freezes, crashes or delays yet. Even apps that were completely unusable before (Safari, AirBnB, Mail, all MS apps) are working fine now. Maybe it's too soon and the issue will reemerge, but for now, so far so good.

The support guy also stated that if you do a clean install this way, and you immediately get the lags and freezes, there's a hardware issue. But most likely it's some kind of issue in the OS that went wrong after upgrading from iOS 12.x to 13 and then again from 13 to 13.1

Apple Support gave the advice to restore the phone from a Mac or PC. Don’t reset from the phone itself as the problem is most likely in the OS so resetting it will not fix it. Restoring from Mac or PC will completely wipe the phone and reinstall the OS. It will take some time and you lose all your data. If the problem is fixed you could then restore a backup. If the problem returns you know the issue is in your backup.

I did not restore a backup but reinstalled all apps manually and have been trouble free since.

I've got my phone working again; It took a clean install and manually re-downloading all the Apps. I used the cloud to re-establish photos, contacts, and notes, however, I lost the call log, game history, and text message history...bummer!

The phone's software is now solid, there's been no software glitch of any kind for the past three and half days. It would be great if this update was a smooth update but this does not appear to be the case unfortunately.

Somewhere there's a conflict on our devices between pre-existing and new. A clean install seems to resolve the issue. Personally, I believe it's not the core OS but it's pre-existing Apps that have issue with the new OS. It's a royal pain but manually re-download and test your apps one by one. Lesson learned...no more updates if the phone is working fine. What a royal pain!

Good luck everyone!

The problem had solved by erasing the device (content and settings).

After setting up the device as new and entering Apple ID / password it's become really fast!

All photos/messages/contacts are downloading from icloud automatically, whatsapp - from it's own reserve copy - manually.

You only need to install your applications from Appstore.

To factory reset your phone from Mac/PC, follow these steps: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252

DO NOT directly reset from your iPhone as it will not fix the issues.

When everything is finished and you restart your phone, do NOT restore from backup during the Welcome Wizard. You will now have a clean, empty and hopefully trouble free iPhone.

After entering your Apple ID, all your photos, contacts, etc will sync back but that will take a while.

You will have to manually install all third party apps from the App Store. Luckily, most will still have your user data (either in iCloud or their own servers) but some might have lost all your data.

pro tip: manually backup your WhatsApp chats in the app before resetting the iPhone so you still have all your recent conversations.

if your phone works fine again, you could redo this process and do restore from backup. I tried it and the problems returned. So don’t do it.

I agree we shouldn't need to but what we shouldn't need to and what we have to are entirely two different things. If you absolutely rely on your phone to make a living and want to stay with Apple then you have to take maters into your own hands and do a clean install. If this doesn't apply to you, then by all means wait for Apple to supply a fix. Good luck either way.

So here is the solution :)

I have tried two things and my Iphone 7 stopped freezing and it works for me at least 1 day. I will observe... This doesn't help for slow performance of email app, but at the end there is probable solution.

  1. Turn off find my phone - I have not enabled this option again yet, but i will try in a few days.
  2. Go to your Touch ID settings and turn off all touch ID use options. Try to lock and unlock your phone with PIN Code. Go to your Touch ID settings and turn on all Touch ID use options .

And that's all. No need to clean reset your phone.

It looks like this operation cleans some cached settings from previous OS version.

I thing i will work similar with other not working proporly apps like "mail app". I will try in a few days to clean email accounts configuration setting and configure my mailboxes again.

Yes I had this trouble on iPhone 6s plus turned out to be my router switched it off for 10 seconds then back on and worked for me.... worth a try

previous to that I did rebooting, backup and then wipe the memory and full reinstall from the previous backup none off that worked since switching router off then back on it’s good not perfect as I do find I have to touch the screen couple off times to get things to open up or work..... typing things in when doing things like a google search works perfect don’t have to double tap any letters

I did come across something the other day when I brought another iPhone 6s Plus for work, I came to put the the information from the iCloud and it gave me 2 options, 1 the latest update the previous phone had done, Then there was another option 2 an update on the previous iOS I think it was 13.1.0 if this was the case backup your phone up and wipe the memory and do a full restore from iCloud and if the previous option of an old iOS is there download that could solve it ......

UPDATE: I ended up doing a reset to factory settings, which reinstalled 13.1.2 and then I restored from a backup (made right before trying to update). It took many hours of time I couldn't afford (on my birthday, unfortunately), but my iPad is working fine now. The restore redownloads the apps, and I think the only one I had trouble with was Words With Friends 2, which I erased and downloaded a third time, then it also worked.

Very frustrating, but this update is pretty major and it didn't seem to install neatly on top of the previous updates. Caveat emptor!

I did the restore to factory settings over a week ago (it took the better part of two days because twice, the senior advisors from Apple Support never called me back at the scheduled time, even though I had e-mail messages confirming the return calls. The two senior advisors I spoke to were terrific, though). That brought the phone up to 13.1.3

I synced my phone to my last backup -- which was the one I made before installing the 13.1.2 update (which I installed over 12.x.x), so I hadn't copied over any of the bad code. It was several weeks old, so I lost a few appointments and a lot of text messages, but it worked pretty well for a while.

Then the problems started again. Freezing as I try to open an app or switch between apps, letters on the keyboard freezing in an upright position (they look like tombstones, for lack of a better description) as I type, running incredibly hot, the battery going from 100% to 20% in five hours. There's still a problem inherent in the code and this update hasn't resolved it.

Has anyone installed 13.2?
