iTunes Downloading

When I click on the iTunes icon, on the AppleTV, it present me with a list of movies that I have purchased. I also have these on my computer. When I click on a movie it begins but then after a short period, sometimes 1 to 2 minutes, I get a spinning ball. I have waited more than necessary for the movie to download or do whatever it is doing but then have to just give it up. Why do I get a spinning ball?

I believe the way I am set up is that the AppleTV communicates with my Router via WiFi and this is where the movie comes from. I have a fiber optic connection and my router speed is @250(?). All comments are welcome as I am trying to get my mind wrapped around this set up.

Possibly the connection between the router and the Apple TV is less than needed for smooth playback, and that could be a reason why the Apple TV tries to buffer a significant portion ahead of time.

If the connection between your router and the ISP is 250 Mbps, then that would be plenty for TV use. However there may be a drop in bandwidth in your home situation, depending on distance to the router and interference.

If you have an Apple TV (4th generation or later), then you could install the Speedtest app on the Apple TV device, to see what speed is available at the device itself.
