CarPlay light/dark mode.

I’m just happy to know I’m not crazy. I never turn my headlights off bc, fun fact, in extreme sun glare like we get here in Florida headlights are often the only thing you can see.

I didn’t even think to check my headlights. I guess I’ll have to drive in auto until they correct this.

How do I get to the Settings screen that you have pictured above?!? My sales person set my CarPlay to “always dark” successfully at the dealership. I had to wipe my phone and now it is back to light. I have tried to navigate using the “Home” button next to the screen and there are no choices or screen like above. Where is it?!?! So frustrating.

Apple definitely needs to enhance Maps. I had started using it regularly over Google but the newer version woth dark mode is so frustrating and inconsistent it's not usable half the time.

1. Dark mode rendering is terrible
2. They MUST add an option to let users light mode - in Maps. Google has it, three options: light, dark, automatic. Apple needs to replicate it

And my car play settings is set to always dark...???

This is generally what I see at night, sometimes randomly maps will eventually switch to dark, sometimes not. Bug I think. Same for everyone else?

Google Maps has it done right, Dark Mode is based on sunrise and sunset. Phone always has location and weather available. Works great. Get it together, Apple.

That is NOT desirable. The app should allow us control and choice if we need to override that behavior. There are circumstances where we need it set a certain way because of rain, dim light, etc.

How about you tell us what car it is so we can help further.

I work on these all day and the solution can be car-specific.

It's a bug in iOS 13 and probably won't be fixed until iOS 14. So many bugs with Apple these days. Same issue for me as well.

Maps does not switch to dark mode, sometimes it does, but often it remains light. Then worse still, during the day, maps is dark. Bug for sure.

Hmm. My problem was indeed the reverse - maps always in light mode, even with CarPlay settings set to always dark. If you want the maps to be always white then I think you’re suggestion of Apple adding a ‘always light’ option is the only way to go unless you leave your phone on light mode too.
