Since updating to iOS13 my podcast app crashes every time I try to stream a podcast. Updates to 13.1.1 and 13.1.2 have not fixed the issue.
The only way I have been able to play a podcast is by first downloading an episode, navigating to downloaded episodes, then playing from there.

I had the same problem but could resolve it easily (after having two weeks frustration).
Just press the Podcasts app for one long second. Now you can choose one of your podcasts. It starts playing.
Go back to your normal screen and you can open the Podcasts app normally. It will not crash anymore (at least on my phone).
This just started for me today, too. I cannot get it to keep playing. My phone also did not update the latest OS update and for some reason it would not show up or update at night like normal. I listen to the podcast app during my commute and all day at work. I listen to hours a day and this is so frustrating. I really hope Apple is paying attention, too. I too normally download my episodes so it is not a streaming issue for me as others have thought.
I am having the same issue. Even after today’s update, anytime I open the app it closes out after two seconds.
Same exact behavior for me. Crashes only when I play an episode that hasn't been downloaded. But happens immediately every time I try to play something not on local storage.

Same issue. Trying to stream a podcast from the Episodes tab results in it flashing to "Not playing" and then immediately crashing. Super annoying.

The previously mentioned work around is no longer working for me either.
My apple Podcast app works for a second and then does a black screen of death. I tried deleting but it does the same thing. I am afraid this is a symptom of bigger problem.

Mine too. I’ve just been listening on youtube/Spotify because it continues to crash despite trying the tricks I’ve found on here. Hopefully Apple fixes that bug soon.
What do you mean hold it for one long second? Doing that just makes it so that you can move the app around on your screen/delete it

we always keep our phones very up to date and use the podcast app daily.
