Update ios 13.1.2 whatsapp crashes when allow access to conttacts

Afrer update to IOS 13.1.2 whatsapp immediately crashes when I give it access to my contacts. If I don't give access, it works correctly. But then I cannot use my contacts.

Does anyone have the same problem and a solution? Apple says I have to go to whatsapp and whatsapp wants me to send debug information but I can't because I cannot get in contact without allowing access to my contacts which causes whatsapp to crash.

I've tried all the normal actions like reinstall whatsapp, restore original settings and even restore my phone to a previous version.

Whatsapp came up with a solution, my WhatsApp is working correctly again with contacts. See their advice below:


“To further assist, can you double check your phone's address book to see if any of your saved contacts' name contain special characters (e.g. a question mark, non-english characters, emoji, and etc.)?

If so, please manually edit and remove these special characters from ALL of the contacts involved and see if you're able to open WhatsApp.”

No, unfortunately not. I've been in contact with Apple Support again but it is a problem in whatsapp so Apple can't solve it. Whatsapp isn't responding to my emails anymore, so I don't get any further. In the app store I see quite some complaints about this, so I hope that will force them to have this problem solved in the next update. My possibilities to try and solve it are exhausted
