After the latest update when I double click the home button I can’t swipe left to close. How to fix?

Had the same issue. Rebooting by completely unplugging all cables from the apple TV, wait 30 seconds, then plug everything back again worked.

I'm going to try the restart but obviously there's a "bug" so Apple - please just fix it! The answer is not to just let the apps sleep in the background. I use it to quickly switch between apps.
