catalina mail column view

In the new Mac osX CataIina I cannot find a way to change the columns viewed in Mail. You used to be able to change the field widths and add columns from the View/Columns menu. How can I accomplish this now?

Also, what does the black background TO next to the email title mean?

While I agree with you that Apple is probably taking the stance that they are a hardware company, great hardware without great software is just a whole lot of plastic and metal. There are thousands examples of that in the technology trash heap. A core program like mail should outlast the here today gone tomorrow attitude of business people who mostly just want to make money and are on another project a few years down the road. I hardly think that a little extra effort in the Apple Mail division is going to make the shareholders shudder.

PC,

Yes, Apple continues to deflate and downgrade their software, but like all of us, if we do not care about something we get rid of it and not let it drag down our business and/or family operations.

Apple not only has allowed all their software suck, but they let it stay available for all to see how bad it sucks.

If Apple is doing this to their software, what are they doing (without us knowing) to their hardware?

Make it better or Make it go away!

Update to Mac OS Catalina 10.15.3 and still no repair to MAIL!

NOW THE SARCASTIC STUFF !!!

Wow Apple, that's great. I have been wondering when you would improve "gamma handling of low gray levels on Pro Display XDR for SDR workflows when using macOS", and to boot you have added "multi-stream video editing performance for HEVC and H.264 encoded 4K video on the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019).

Well, that's just what I've been waiting for, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But there is one thing that you missed! How can I keep track of all the wonderful graphics that I EMAIL to my friends?

Someone sent an email to about a new graphical image that I published, but I did not look at it B/C i didn't know who sent it, when it was sent, what the subject was, the size and anything else. It may have been important, but Apple doesn't think so I just ignored it.

I will update this soon with my FEEDBACK to Apple!

THANKS A LOT APPLE. FIX MAIL!

People don't tell Apple what people want, Apple tells people what people want.

Apple doesn't care about these threads as they have already decided that you don't need that feature.

Just like they decided I don't need free internet music streaming in iTunes. Why would I when I can subscribe to their music streaming service? They also decided I don't need the iTunes remote control app on my iPhone or iPad to play my own ripped music on my Hi-Fi connected macmini.

I'm using and liking Thunderbird.

now it's been a week with outlook mail and calendar. not 100% seamless but seems to do what i want it to do. almost.

i am still using osx and a lot of fruit apps - like finder, terminal and disk tools (and boot camp! which is a very good app they still make, but please do not tell anybody near apple that!!!) - but for the daily work tools, nothing left from apple.

  • text and spreadsheet is apache open office and MS office 365.
  • browser is firefox.
  • photo editing is light room.
  • and so on.

mac mail was the last app to leave, and it did it with bravour !

( that is; the above goes for the profesional life. for entertainment i still use itunes where i have all my records stored and organized. - ...wtf?? that is gone too and now turned into "music" ??? they sure know how to fix things that definitely aint broken )

I agree with all of the above. But one thing to remember is that Apple assigns their least capable programmers to mature products. Many of the issues on functions in Mail are a result of inexperienced programming skills. It is not their fault but they are still learning. Now the real question is why does Apple do that? Go figure.

Ask previous Apple programmers.

No, Apple is not because they don't read here (except to make sure that people are conforming to the terms of use). This is a user-to-user forum. If you want Apple to know how you feel, use the feedback page:
