The Catalina installation seems to be stuck for hours with:
“Estimating time remaining...”
I don’t recall having an installation on previous OSs taking so long.
Forced reboot and back to the same stage.
Anybody?
After about two hours of seemingly no progress, I restarted. I don't really consider this a good thing to do during a system installation but this seemed to get things going. At least a message came up saying 32 minutes remaining – although it still took over an hour after that.
I think Apple needs to put a more senior developer on the install process to reassure the user that things are working and give progress.

Rather then high jacking this thread, you really should start your own thread for your problem.
If that is so the solution posted above should solve it for you then.
On the contrary, generally multiple posters in the same thread only cause confusion for everyone.
My iMac reached the login screen after 8 hours. It then got stuck on Setting Up Your Mac ... But that is definitely a different discussion.

Too funny but frustrating. I’ve been looking at the “bar of no movement” so long I see it with my eyes closed.
Be patient. Mine was just like this. Sometime overnight it finished....
Same here. Started setting up at 5 PM yesterday . It is 10 AM today still setting up.
Mine did the exact same thing and it finally loaded just be patient.
It is also called Community Support for members to help one another and not berate one another.

my installation is frozen stuck with a blank screen for several hours now.
I tried to restart, after initial progress bar back to the same state.
Any ideas?
Reboot, power off and back on, it's stuck in a loop, it will pick up where it left off and be faster at completing, many have done it, do it. For me it finished immediately after I rebooted.
Did that. confirming your information is on target. immediately rebooted with new OS
