ScanSnap ix500 Software for Mac OS Catalina?

I am trying to obtain 64-bit software for a ScanSnap ix500.

"ScanSnap Home" is supposed to be the 64-bit replacement program for older 32-bit software, but the Fujitsu download page does not show the program (or any other downloads compatible with Mac OS Catalina).

Some have recommended trying Vuescan but I see no 64-bit download on their site either.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to use this scanner with Mac OS Catalina.

Thanks in advance.

I called Fujitsu (800-626-4686) and they walked me through the update (Scansnap Home) to get it all working again. The update is at scansnap.com/D but the guy made some changes in the system preferences after downloading.

Check the respective Fujitsu SnapScan model against the supported SnapScan models at VueScan. It will tell you whether it can drive the scanner with, or entirely without any Fujitsu drivers. Yes, the 64-bit VueScan has a cost, but it would seem if you have a vendor unsupported scanner, that it is a practical expense for vendor independence and a means to continuing to use the scanner.

Disclaimer: I have owned VueScan Professional since 2012, and have never paid an update charge. I also do not receive any benefit from the vendor for recommending this worthy product here.

Just tested ExactScan and found it to be reasonable good. I say reasonably as I was attuned to using VueScan and its user interface and found the UI for ExactScan to be a learning curve. However, the features were comparable.

Currently VueScan's prices are less than ExactScan as they are having a sale. I think either would be better than the software that came with my Canon scanner and probably any scanner's software.

Your post was very helpful. After Fujitsu tech sent the link to update to the 64 bit Scansnap Home, it wouldn't scan. We would get a message that "The specified destination (image saving folder) is invalid). Finally, a Fujitsu tech knew how to solve this issue. He said it was an "Access Permission Issue." We went to System Preferences, selected Security and Privacy, then Privacy. We clicked the lock (to open) located on the bottom left and added the Scansnap to enable Location Service. Closed lock and the scanner worked. Thanks, no need to buy new scanner!

I have the ix500 scanner and hooked it up to my new Mac with Catalina on January 19, 2020. Everything connected fine including wireless but when I tried to scan I got nowhere except a message having something to do with the folder it was to save the scans to.

I did not want to use the cloud app so I looked tirelessly and found the fix on the Fujitsu ScanSnap website. I uninstalled the driver I had, downloaded the most recent driver for the ix500 and Catalina OS, connected the scanner (including wirelessly), then followed the instructions included below and it worked first time I tried. Actually, I found it simpler then using the old ScanSnap Manager that was on my old computer.

Even though my scanner is not even 2 years old yet I know this model has been discontinued. It does work now with Catalina. It has to do with the extra layers of security in the current OS for Mac. See the steps below from ScanSnap website. With my system you only needed to check the box for ScanSnap Home (the others below it did not show):

I found a solution! I have the IX500 so I went to the App Store and found ScanSnap Cloud for IX Series and its awesome! Add the app, follow the prompts and connect your scanner to the cloud. I connected my scanner to my Dropbox and now I don't even need to connect my MacBook to the scanner. Scan docs, they go to the cloud, you open the app and they are there. Hope this works for you.
