macOS Catalina TV app not showing my iTunes library

I updated my MacBook Pro to 10.15 (Catalina) today and the new TV app isn't showing me my iTunes library, which includes a very large number of movies and TV shows. The Library tab shows empty placeholders for the 18 movies that I had downloaded, but no actual movie thumbnails, just the movie names and an empty box for each one. Oddly, the Watch Now tab shows my recently played and purchased movies and TV shows, and if I search for a movie that I own I get a movie page with a Play button, so it knows I own the movie. I tried signing out and back in to iCloud and rebooting, but nothing helps.

I had similar problems and found a solution via apple support call The problem was with my login items. I shutdown and restarted in safe mode. (Hold shift key while restarting until login screen appears) After opening the TV app, all the thumbnails appeared. I then removed my 4 login items (AdGuard, Dropbox, Clean-myMac, and Audio Hijack Scheduler) and restarted in regular mode. All the thumbnails were populated in the TV app. I'll be adding back the startup items one at a time to see which one it is.

You posted that comment nearly a month ago so just wondering if any news. Was SO hopeful that the Catalina update would help but it didn't (at least not for me). I initially downloaded Catalina a couple weeks ago now and regret it massively! Got my first Macintosh in 1994 and I've been with Apple since, but after this fiasco, seriously questioning my next purchase if this isn't addressed soon.

I concur. I actually said something like that to the "senior level" guy I was on the phone with for 4 hours and I asked why they didn't just leave well enough alone. The reply was that things are always changing, but Apple should adopt a "don't fix what's broken" philosophy. I LOVED iTunes for TV shows as I'm all but bedridden dealing with brain tumor symptoms and this is my main source of entertainment. Now it's nothing but frustration. My Wish List is gone (can't even find it if such a thing still exists, maybe they discontinued it, who knows) and I ALWAYS surfed the "Latest Episodes" section each day to get the previous night's episodes. It made it easy to find and also introduced me to new things I didn't know about. Thinking of switching to Amazon Video for good if they don't reverse this or somehow make it more user-friendly. Although I did feel that the people trying to help me on the phone were concerned about my difficulties, and they were super polite and tried their best, they didn't seem to care about customer feedback AT ALL. It was more about "let's fix your problem" but not so much "What could be done to prevent the problem from arising in the first place?"

What's not the same thing. I for one love HD, like for 4K, and would want to get rid of SD in my library. The sad thing is, not everything I wanna buy (or own) is in HD. [Scrubs] or Stargate SG-1 for one do only have later seasons in HD. I don't wanna pay for SD quality. But if I press [buy seasons] in the new and shiny TV.app store it shows list of seasons with prices/purchase buttons. So, I don't know what quality each of them. That's an issue. Big one.

I think I am having a similar issue. Mine started where the Imac was giving me constant notifications to log into icloud . I kept doing it since catalina came out but it seemingly didn't log me in. This past weekend I finally got it to really log in and my entire documents folder that is usually on the menu bar got deleted and an icloud documents folder icon there, with links to my old documents folder contents that didnt load when clicked on. I have also been using the tv app on my phone to watch tv shows and movies in my library up until this past weekend and now get a "error loading content" yet i can see thumbnails for the shows and the descriptions and titles are there, they just wont play. These are only files I have stored on my computer that I have put there from DVDs etc. I am going to check when i get home to see if it deleted these files like it did to my documents folder.

I have not tried to change my Apple ID password. Are you suggesting that I try this? Why do you think that would help? I am logged into iCloud for all other purposes with no issues that I can see ... it is just the iTunes Store that will not let me in. My email tracks perfectly across devices, for example. Notes edited on my iPad Pro show up correctly on the MacBook Pro.

Following the steps you laid out, I was able to get this on my MacBook Pro, and found the same thing! I also found something with a red dot next to it about an invalid port, whatever that means, but I have zero idea if it's related. Technology goes WAY over my head, so it may be something totally unconnected to this issue, but thought I'd mention it in case anyone out there reading this is much smarter than me in this department and finds that info useful in any way.
