After installing macOS Catalina my internal keyboard suddenly stops working.

Day one with Catalina, and the internal keyboard of my macbook pro 13" suddenly stops working. Nothing I type works. First time I tried to use the computer and the keyboard didn't work. I restarted, and it worked again. Later while writing an email on gmail the keyboard stopped working mid-word.


I connected an external keyboard and it works, still the internal one is not working. This is a bad workaround, I can't be carrying my external keyboard everywhere I go.


Hope someone can help me

Update: it’s been a week now without incidents. Apparently, Karabiner, a program I use to change the comma on my external keyboard for a period (num pad) was causing the problem. I didn’t even uninstall it, just closed it and everything is fine now. A shame because I find it really useful, hoping an update on karabiner will fully solve the problem

This may have worked for you, or simply a coincidence that the issue hasn't resurfaced. I don't have that app or anything other than apps that came with OSX and my keyboard and trackpad will not work. I even reloaded with older OSX and the keyboard and trackpad still seem to be broken. The shift key works to wake the laptop once it falls asleep, but doesn't recognize any other keys pressed. That's even after reverting to OSX that previously worked!

That is correct that there is malware but it is not virus. The malware is based on social engineering in which they get you to agree to install it. Antivirus software is unable to protect you from that kind of malware. In addition, so many of the antivirus packages are so poorly code so as to be far worst then what they claim they will protect your Mac against. For these reason I strongly recommend against the installation of any of them.

That's a foolish and naive assumption on both counts. Differentiating between viruses and other forms of malware is a question of semantics and you're just being argumentative for sport, and probably looking to fatten your level. I'm sure you're very proud of it, even though you're "helping" people by spreading misinformation. Any decent worm requires no social engineering. Read up on the link that I posted. Many exploits, especially those that involve Safari, require nothing but a malicious ad to appear on the screen.


"Antivirus" is just an umbrella term for anti-malware and endpoint security software. Stop throwing up strawman arguments and either post some worthwhile information, or leave the topic alone and find a more productive hobby.

It has been my experience when called in to help with performance problems on Mac that uninstalling any antivirus software installed on the Mac first tends to solve the problem.


IMHO if anyone is posting worthless information it is you.


For someone who joined in 2006 and only has 8 points that certainly cause me to question your reputation here.

And discussions.apple.com was probably a great source of information until the time came that Apple decided that "community-based" free support from people like you was more profitable than actually providing support outside of the old "wipe and reimage" answer you'll get at a Genius Bar. Even worse, there is no method for reporting dangerously misleading posts here.


The content of these "don't use anti-malware" posts is very similar to the argument that seatbelts will never be uncomfortable if you simply don't wear them.
