Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

Thanks much Marcus for sharing your experience. Just to make sure I understand you, you deleted the folder "iPod Photo Cache" from your Mac HD, which is under Pictures -> Photos Library. You then reconnected the iPhone via USB cable and synced. This resulted in albums that were under various folders in Photos on your Mac correctly synced to your iPhone? BTW, I couldn't go directly to that subfolder using Finder. I had to search for it first, then right clicked and selected "Open in New Tab". Thanks again.

To follow up on my previous post.

I now have my photos back on my iPhone. I have no idea what will happen next sync. Each time I want to sync to one of my devices I have to power off my Mac and then back on and it seems to work.

My problem now is that on my iPad I was able to sync all photos but of my 22,000+ photos only about 10 show up. Everything else is just a black box. Ugh.

You will need to delete the iPod Photo Cache folder for each device , every time you want to sync.

inhave been dealing with this issue for about six months; for me it pre-dates Catalina.

This is my workflow for each device, with every sync:

Uncheck the sync photos option and agree to remove the photos. Apply.

Sync the phone as many times as you like.

Delete iPod Photo Cache folder

Check Synx Photos and verify the source folder. Apply.

Back up the Phone when sync is complete. Do not try to sync again - it just gets stuck.

Repeat the process for the next device.

12K+ photos can take as long as two hours and the ordering is now random in the device.

Hope this helps.

Like others, I had photo synch issues after installing Catalina and called Apple Support. The tech and I agreed that the best solution was to restore back to my previous OS, Mojave. Although it takes time, this is easily done using a recent Time Machine backup done right before I "upgraded" to Catalina.

Things work correctly now.

For my last 6 months on Mojave, I reverted back to an older version of iTunes, and my syncs were very fast, like in years past. Sigh, the good old days...

Anyway, I have no doubt that whether you take the step on your i-device first, or delete the photo cache on your Mac first, you'll still get the same results. 😀 A slow sync but nowhere near as slow as if you leave your i-device connected to your Mac to do the deletions (took me 9 hours with 30k photos doing it that way).

Same for me.

log as different user and also reinstalled Catalina.

Catalina do not sync from Photo but only from folders (with the loss of persons, places and all was built with Photo), undo of deleted mails don't work, unlock with watch don't work (for me), and a lot of other malfunctions.

But it seems Apple is aware of these issues... they just need to fix them

Really glad to know I am not the only one having this problem. The only reason I remain in the Apple ecosystem is they have my years and years of photos embedded in Photo, plus it's a terrible challenge getting out of the iMessage world. If I can no longer sync and manage my photo albums, there is very little keeping me on the platform.

OK I HAVE SOLUTION THAT WORKS FOR THOSE WHO ARE DESPERATE ENOUGH TO GET THE MOST IMPORTANT PHOTOS BACK TO THEIR PHONES: get around the folders in Photo app:

I have renamed all my files (in my folders) photos app.

I moved the files out of the folders.

YES now I have caa 100,000,000 files mess that is 50miles long (on my Mac photo app) ...... but I got them back on my phone.

......its a workable get around until permanent solution FIX in CATALINA comes from the geniuses that caused this in the first place. And yes it took me about 8h to reformat and re-organize my files. Thank you Apple for that grand waste of my time!

ps.

There is no longer right click delete photo option!!!

TO DELETE PHOTO:

Right click ->find photo in line up -> then you get right click ->delete ONE PICTURE! ....... its RIDICULOUS!!!!

Who came up with that multi-clicking-happy-he*l, I would like to know!? instead deleting 50pict in 1 click I have to do 4 clicks 50x!!!

I too have the newest OS and iOS, and cannot sync selected albums from Photos on my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 8. I tried / did / checked everything the Sr. Advisor suggested, but when she asked me to create a new User account in which to try this, that's when I had enough. Too often, IMHO, the issue lies not in my updated configuration, but in the update itself. And I can live a few more weeks without any photos on my iPhone.
