Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

I had this same problem last night. I *think* I solved it by quitting Photos and then opening it again while holding down the option + command keys, which brought up the “Repair Library” screen. I selected the Repair option. The repair process lasted a number of hours, but now my Mac photos are successfully syncing with iCloud, iPhone, etc. (fingers crossed).

I did repair my library too, not even knowing that was possible. Sadly, it did the same. It syncs all but the last few thousand (I have ~18k photos) but stops. It allows me to eject, so it thinks it's done, but it's still actively sending the photos over to the phone until it just hangs. I also wonder how much is related not to the syncing but to the fact that it reindexed all photos for Catalina. The reason I ask is, I have a "Best of last month" album that photos curated for me, and although the photos information (date) is right, there are photos from May, June, etc. in my "Best of last month" photo collaboration made by photos.

I have seen a few people state that possibility now. I may have possibly said it myself at one point. Of course, whether or not it is actually true is anyone's guess. At any rate, when I encountered this obvious syncing bug between my iMac and my iPhone, I went ahead and reactivated my $1 a month iCloud storage plan, in the hope that it would enable me to get all of my family videos and photos back on my iPhone. I have 256 GB of storage on my iPhone, so I chose the option to download the originals to it. It took around 24 hours to download, but it appears that all 21 GB of data are now back on my iPhone, in the same-named albums that I created on my iMac.

Personally, at $1 a month for 50 GB of storage, I am not going to complain. Let's face it. That is pretty darn cheap. The only drawback for me, is that I really don't like having any of my personal data in the cloud. I am simply not comfortable with it, considering how many security breaches we have seen in recent years, including with very large companies. Having said that, once Apple fixes this syncing issue, I may just go ahead and deactivate my 50 GB/month plan. We'll see.

Yes on the cost, but the more people switch to cloud, less incentive for Apple to fix this problem. There have been multiple postings in this thread that suggested this is Apple's intent. For me, cost is secondary. I also don't use it for my photos for various reasons, including security. This in only one of many issues with Catalina. For example, they got rid of column browsers in Music. Apple, if you are monitoring this thread, you may win some clients for cloud, but there are also many of us who are at the end of our rope. The problems have now snow balled enough that I will likely wean myself off the Apple ecosystem. I've held off on buying an iPhone 11 and for sure my next PC will not be a Mac.

Again, none of us know really know what Apple's intentions are, or are not. I will say this though: I know from personal experience that Apple frowns upon speculations and personal theories being posted in its forums which meander away from the technical nature of these forums. Apple likewise frowns upon any comments which are overly negative towards or critical of Apple. Such comments tend to be removed by the forum moderators.

Having said that, just because multiple people in this forum state something does not make it so. Personally, my view is that this syncing issue is an unintentional bug which somehow was overlooked by Apple. Yes, I am just as surprised as everyone else that it was overlooked. But my point is this: If Apple's intention is really to drive more people to purchase iCloud storage accounts, then I honestly don't think that they would have even gone through the trouble of making it possible to sync devices via the Finder's sidebar in the first place. I think they would have just been straightforward about it and said, "From now on, if you want to sync devices, you need to purchase an iCloud account that accommodates your particularly needs." I really don't think that they would have gone out of their way to upset a lot of people by letting this syncing bug pass through.

From everything I have read in this and other threads, it seems that Apple is now fully aware of this syncing bug, has already elevated it with its engineers, and is taking it seriously. Hopefully, we will see a fix in 10.15.2, or soon after.

I will never use iCloud for my photos!!!

The reason? It's simple.

In iCloud... or all photos in the cloud and on all devices or none.

But on my iMac I store ALL my photos including working photos and I handle them with Photo app. But on my device I only want my personal photos that are in specific folders and albums. Also.... If I have a very privare photo taken on my iPhone I do not want it is available on my iMac

Synching from iMac Photo app do it. Synching from iCloud NO.

So, never never my photos will be in the Cloud until Apple handle them as they do it now

OK ... I noticed, that after updating to Catalina the import settings in Fotos were reset so that only link were imported not the whole pictures I did after the update and imported it from my NAS to fotos. This is the reason why new albums were not able to sync even if they are not in a subfolder. I learned this today when trying to upload to the cloud and my Mac said „there are 150 linked pictures“ they won’t be uploaded.

next thing, I noticed that after the sync process seems to be ready in finder, the phone still syncs picture and folders ... maybe creating the new structure but I do not immediately eject now the phone to be on the safe side

I have the same issue since I've upgraded to Catalina (10.15.1) and iOS 13.2 on my iphone.

When I first synced my mac to my iphone after upgrading using the lightning cable (I don't use icloud photos) the sync removed most of the photos from my iphone that had previously been synced to it. I have tried to re sync many times but they will not transfer back to my iphone. I have all my photos organised in albums under "my albums" and although most of the albums still appear on my iphone the sync randomly only populates some of the photos in each album. I some cases I have 150 photos in an album but less than half get copied to my iphone.

I've tried repairing my photo library but that makes no difference.

I never had any syncing issues with previous versions of the mac operating system and I now can't risk trying to sync my ipad.

Same issue here with Apple TV. I'm an enthousiastic photographer and all my albums I created in iPhoto are gone in the new photo app on Catalina and photos cannot be shared on my Apple TV. Creating the albums in iPhoto with correct locations and ratings was a lot of work! I also play music on Apple TV with my photos as screensaver but no more since Catalina and the new Photo app. I hope Apple will fix this soon!

I have the same issues like you all. BUT i have a work around which ist working fine for me.

I didn't read every single page in this thread. So i don't know if someone mentioned it before.

You can create an intelligent album like Photo Date taken 01.01.2018 - 31.12.2018. This intelligent Album ist syncing without any problems. Sure you cannot choose single folders to exclude like you can when you have a folder structure. But for me it's good like that.

BUT Apple should really fix that. That's not Apple-Like.

I am wondering if Apple's solution is to use iCloud to sync photos between all devices - Mac, iPhone, iPad, etc. 5 GB is free, 50 GB is 0.99 USD per month and 200 GB is 2.99 USD per month. That is not horrible but I would rather continue using iTunes to sync my photos for free like I have done for several years. I'm anxiously awaiting someone's post that Apple has solved the problem without having to use iCloud.
