Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

My issue is not all the photos in a particular album will sync, and I'm only sync-ing like three albums, maybe 100 photo. If I duplicate the photo in question it will then sync. However, sometimes I can't duplicate the photo, just won't duplicate, so I find the original in Photos, share it with myself via messages, reimport it, add it to the album, and maybe I have to duplicate it or maybe I don't, it depends, but I can't tell you what it depends on but it will then sync sometimes both sync, then I delete one usually saving the duplicate. I'd hate to be working with thousands of photos.

Everyone,

just a suggestion - would everyone still experiencing Photos problems please log their problem via the Apple Support page (for their country). The feedback forum problems don't always make it to Apple engineers.

I logged a new Catalina problem in Feb 2020 and Apple fixed it for most users but not in my case. Apple closed the job as complete and because I still had the problem I thought they had just ignored it. When I talked to Support on the phone this week (Sept) we all realised that some users, like me, still had a problem. The Photos problems have been fixed for most users but not all. Apple Support needs a "kick along".

Go to the Apple Support site for your country (https://support.apple.com) select Mac, MacOS, go to the bottom right of the page, select "Want to talk with someone?", select "Applications & Other Software Topics", select "The topic is not listed", enter a detailed one sentence description of the problem, and request to talk to someone at Apple Support.

If Apple request your machine's serial no. and say it is no longer supported then request an exception (since Catalina is new and buggy).

Talk to Apple Support. Be polite but firm.

Oh, and good luck.

I just added three more tickets around various problems with photos including syncing. I did a full resync again with macOS 10.15.6 and iOS 13.7 and _most_ of my photos sync'd, but then I resync'd and got missing photos and duplicates once again. It's so infuriating! It's literally been a year, and I can't sync between macOS and iOS reliably.

Had another re-sync error on iOS 13.7 / macOS 10.15.6. macOS copied over 19,000 photos even though only eight needed to be sync'd, and now I have 34,000 on my iPhone when my entire macOS library is 22,438. Also, I'm getting "unable to copy [video file name] because it cannot be played on this iPhone".

For me it is not solved at all. The opposite happened. I bought a new iPhone 11Pro and synced it directly with my iPhone X. The Photos problem is the same as I had before.

But Apple gave me a new Apple-Bug-S.h.i.t problem to solve, I think they want me not only to buy iCloud Upgrades, no now theye want me to buy Music....all my Albums synced with iTunes now are showing wrong COVERS, they are completely messesd up. So I listen to Bach Arias but the illustrations shows me a Sting-Album, or Bob Marley now appears in a completely new Ella Fitzgerald Look.....

My compliments go to the Amateurs of Apple.

It's been over a year now and the macOS Finder to iOS syncing problems are still not fully fixed. I finally resync'd from 10.15.7 to 14.0.1 and it has seemed to work for the past few weeks, but I've had spells of the syncing working and then not working. The first time I sync'd iOS 14.0 to macOS 10.15.7, it absolutely didn't work. It's funny to me when I see all Apple announce a LIDAR TWELVE CORE NEURAL ENGINE. Their engineers literally can't figure out how to copy photos and music from my laptop to my phone. AND FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR THEY COULDN'T MAKE IT WORK! You'd think that would get solved before they solved artificial intelligent smart HomePod Siri agents! LOL. I literally can't search for photos of myself on my iPhone despite tagging them multiple times in iOS and macOS over the past fifteen years. I probably would have upgraded my iPhone last year, but I feel like Apple has totally abandoned their technical users at this point. I'm thinking just replace the battery in my old iPhone X and buy a Sony RX100 VII at this point. It's madness that Apple couldn't make the iPhone 12 Pro use the wider sensor. I don't want to carry around an iPad mini (iPhone 12 Max) to use the full size camera sensor.

hoyhoy... I'm so sorry that all your personal work to organize your content has seems to have gone for not. I am a retired IT software person and your term "technical users" struck a chord. We adapt their technology as a baseline to optimize our usage of their products that they advertise as their "it just works" mantra. Well when the baseline doesn't work it all falls down. That's the real tragedy for us. And then, they don't even support their own product. Yes, ONE year we have dealt with this, working with their technical support to find a solution that we can share on this forum but no solution! It really is embarrassing the way they mis-handle their software releases. I have not upgraded to the new iOS yet and will cautiously wait to update my MacOS. Their quality testing is atrocious. Tim Cook said that they would focus on improving this after the Catalina fiasco. Don't see much of that so far. I'm at a loss!

Yeah, and add to the fact that on update, macOS 10.15 blows away everything in the /etc directory. I've literally had to write shell scripts to restore my sshd_config and sudoers files because Apple insists on making sshd insecure by default with password authentication being re-enabled and disabling TouchID in sudoers.

After the latest update 14.0 , 14.1 I am amazed that after a year my photos are syncing as they used to before Catalina and IOS 13!! It has been a nightmare process, with no announcement ever made by Apple, of the obvious break in the system. I am now able to add photos without getting duplicates and without having to erase all photos in order to get a semi normal sync.

Although this thread was marked solved many months ago, it obviously still had many people looking for answers. I was following it for a year, hoping to figure out something since Apple was not admitting to the problem. Am surprised there has been no activity since the apparent fix in syncing.

Unfortunately the issue for me is still there. What I noticed is that if have photos in more than one album, than they are not loaded into the iPhone. But again this is totally unpredictable. What is the reason behind this bug is to me not clear. But it's a big shame for people at Cupertino! Especially considering that this feature was working like a charme before!

I have been contributing to this thread for the past year. This weekend I thought it was safe to upgrade my iPad Air 3 to iPadOS 14 with the 14.2 variant. Now Photos on my iPad crashes upon launch! I have not tried to sync to my iMac. I can view photos by tapping the last photo thumbnail in the Camera app but no access to albums.

I tried resetting and powering off the iPad but no change. So I started a thread for this problem. Will call Support today. Very frustrating.

Hi all, has any one had experience of Big Sur which releases today. Does it address the issues relating to Catalina or merely introduced new ones. For what it’s worth my iPad Pro & iPhone XR are synchronised with my MacBook Air 2020 all on latest updates available, with no problems at present although I don’t sync then very often for obvious reasons. 😂
