Mail cannot save information about your mailboxes because there isn't enough space in your home folder

Yes - I did this - my mac was pretending I had a fusion drive even though it was two SSDs - super annoying - I did this diskutil resetfusion above and it worked like a charm

I "resolved" the issue by using Spark instead of Mail. However the Mac ist still failing from time to time and get's really slow. Hope desperately for another update.

Apple's just come out with Catalina 10.15.2 and it hasn't solved a thing. Apple has been very disappointing recently.

Peter - You need to elaborate. I have two pop email accounts that I download in coming email to the mail app. I also have 40 local mac email folders that I move and store email that I wish to save.

I am sorry but your solution appears a bit draconian. I would be interested in knowing a bit more detail on how you came to your conclusion.
