MacBook Air completely bricked after Catalina update

I have problem with my early 2015 MacBook Air. When I tried install update computer switched off and don’t turn on now. I only have blinking question mark in folder icon. Cmd+R doesn’t work. What’s going on?

reset macbook air Hi, I tried to reset my macbook air and now it turns on with a black screen with a blinking folder containing a question mark. The mac wont respond anymore. Could you please assist me in how to solve this issue?

Imagine, after two weeks since I left my Mac mini in Authorised Apple Service in Poland I still haven't heard word on it... status unchanged - 'awaiting diagnosis'. Don't have much expectation but now at least information about this problem got more public. Probably I am naive, but maybe I will be surprised. If not, I will go for the chip exchange option from eBay probably and will bring that to some independent technician with good soldering skills.

I have the same problem IMac 27 5k late 2014 also with bricked. Apple authorised repair service says that the motherboard is not working anymore. EFI problem... I am in France. Apple has to do something about it...

I had the same call and was also directed to an Apple technician "higher level support", but he said to me that he could do nothing about it. It was up to the repair center to contact Apple and somehow prove that it is not a mother board problem but the Catalina update issue.

What are you going to do with your computer? Are you going to Apple store to repair your computer? And who is going to pay for it?

Tak, jestem z Polski. Dzisiaj odebrałem komputer z serwisu, skasowali mnie 400 PLN. Diagnoza: uszkodzone EFI na płycie głównej. I tak się zastanawiam co dalej z tym zrobić. Bo to zostało ewidentnie uszkodzone podczas procesu aktualizacji. Potwierdzili to w serwisie, mówiąc że było u nich kilkanaście komputerów dokładnie z tym samym problemem.

Yes, I am from Poland. Today I received my Mac from service, and I paid 400 PLN ($100). Diagnosis: destroyed EFI on motherboard. And now I am thinking what do with this. This problem is simply Catalina update fault. The guy in service told me that he has a over a dozen Macs with exactly the same problem.
