Error opening Documents via Finder after Catalina install

After installing Catalina, I am no longer able to open files via Documents in Finder. I am able to open them if they can be retrieved via a recent file in Word, Excel, etc. How do I restore the Documents functionality?

Here is the error message:

“Documents” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.

In the sidebar, under the 'iCloud' section, remove the shortcut / link 'Documents' - and 'Desktop' if that one is not working either (as it doesn't in my case). Then, in that same 'iCloud' section, open the 'iCloud Drive' shortcut - you'll see your 'Documents' and 'Desktop' folders (amongst others). Drag them under that 'iCloud' section in your sidebar in order to (re)create the shortcuts and your back.
