MacOs Catalina and Notability Issues

Is anyone else having issues with notability causing your macbook to overheat and drain the battery after updating to MacOs Catalina? I already submitted a request to notability to look at this but I just wanted to see if it was an isolated problem on my end or if other people are having this issue as well.

Finally got a reply from Notability! Here's what they said:

"Thanks for getting in touch and sorry for the trouble! We recently introduced Document Scanning which may take more effort than usual, while your previous images index, so it may drain the battery faster than normal and make your device warm. Once all of your images have been processed, though, things should return to normal.

Please let us know if things haven't settled down, and we can investigate further."

Soo considering I have 700 lectures on notability, I got a feeling this is gonna take a while. I think I might just plug in my macbook overnight and let it run its course (probably gonna have to pop open my window to help keep it cool). I think I'll give it a shot tonight and let u know how it is tomorrow. Really hoping that this is the solution...

So after letting my laptop run all night, I'm no longer having any issues with notability lagging or overheating! Function is completely back to normal. That was the issue I was having with my computer. It was working completely fine after the macos catalina update except for when I opened notability. Being that I'm a student and that's the app I use to study, it was frustrating for my laptop to be virtually unusable when I wanted to get some studying done.

Now with that...it's clear that many other people are having issues with their macbook overheating (unrelated to notability) and for that, I unfortunately don't have any answer to.

Hello guys! I saw the same thing with Mojave OS. I never updated my laptop (MBA2017) from HS because everyone was complaining about Mojave draining battery. I thought I'll wait until the new OS is out. But reading trough the comments on this thread it seems that the problem is not fixed with the new OS (at least the early version).

Did you experience the same with Mojave? From some of your comments I understand that you didn't and it's only in Catalina.

Thanks!

I upgraded to Catalina a few days ago - MacBook Pro 2015. I'm very sorry I did, as I'm having other problems, but today I used my computer without the power cord and couldn't believe that in under 2 hours I was down to 5%. This has never happened. Thanks for this post, I guess we'll just have to wait until Apple sends out fixes to the problems with this OS. Very aggravating!

I swear this battery issue sounds more like another one of Apples battery big scams. Like they want to kill our laptops so we have to buy new ones. News flash Apple your killing new laptops. This issue with batteries dying and systems over heating can cause permanent damage to the circuit board. Nothing can run hot and not cause damage. Apple needs to come with a new update to fix these issues like yesterday. Come on Apple we need a fix so we can stay updated on the software.

I had a second update tonight for the OS Catalina. The first time I upgraded to Catalina, I had faced a lot of issues as the battery was draining down very quickly.

However I also noticed it did become a bit better after a couple of days but it was no were near to how it was before the OS upgrade.

I am hoping this new Catalina patch update I had today will make it smoother in performance of my MBP. time will tell.

I finally seem to have resolution without wiping my computers clean. A senior advisor from Mac Support guided me through cleaning up some of what might have been conflicting with Catalina. I estimate -+ 20 hours spent to get to what seems (fingers crossed) to be resolution, but I will take it! He did advise that it is best to find what is causing the battery drain vs. my midpoint idea of waiting for an OS update, which someone else here advised.
