Solution to Save As in TextEdit

I just found a workaround online: While in your document, hold down the option Key and under File, the Duplicate option mysteriously turns into Save As

TextEdit Save As function It is driving me totally crazy.. I work with Apple since 1995, so i am probably an 'old-habit-stuck-man' when at work and saving files. But every, every, every, ever, etc... time I save a TextEdit file I press Cmd+Shift+S to save the document (as)...... yes, because i am used to do so with every, every. etc application! But as I Cmd+Shift+S with TextEdit then there magically pops up a Copy! Why? ...... any one any idea?! Best, Hans

why won't textedit issue not been fixed after at least two years Since 2020 posts have appeared recounting an issue with TextEdit not saving after re-editing a TextEdit file. I now have a new M1 mac with an identical problem and work around it by using libre-office to open and save those text files...it saves back to the original file any edits that you may carry out, same when using Pages etc. But, and here is the concern I have, is why hasn't Apple provided a software fix. I mean for goodness sake they have huge software resources and it's clear to me this problem shouldn't have continued for so long. Although the application is Open Source, it is bundled with the Mac so Apple hierarchy have an obligation to investigate and deal with the problem, but so far nothing. I seriously wonder if Steve Jobs would have allowed such apparent disinterest.

Yes, but I have just switched to textedit full time for text and couldn't find the solution until today for the Save As option.
