IOS 13 Mail Contact Blocking not working Correctly

The IOS 13 contact mail Blocking is not working! After selecting the emails contact and "Block this Contact" and with the Mail Threading settings Blocked Sender Options set to "Move to Trash" I still see mail from the blocked contacts. The mail has a grayed hand showing, with the contact listed in the Blocked list. The blocked mail still shows up in my in box. Selecting the contact again, it displays This message is from a blocked contact. So why is the blocked email in my inbox and not in the the trash?

This problem with blocking email that doesn’t work no matter what you try has got to be blamed on Apple. It’s their OS. So we have to band together and figure out a way to force Apple to make it work.

the bottom line is $$$$. Hit them where it hurts. They have been given ample time to correct the issue and seemingly have done nothing.

the best way to MAKE them listen is to start buying competitive brands. Sales will tell them quickly why they need to correct the problem. A single voice or two is not going to do it. The PRESSURE has to be real!

if enough of us do this I guarantee that you will see a “magical” correction of this problem!

One of the problems with this approach, and they know this, is how difficult it is for a diverse group of people to actually agree to do it. But if they do, it usually gets things done.

Good luck everyone!

There is NO solution tonStupid and that’s a fact. Apple are constantly told of concerns and then simply ignore them. After dealing with them for close to forty years you learn to make your own adjustments to get by, if you want to continue using their products. One thing I have NEVER understood is Why under God’s heaven do they persist in releasing OS that have flaws. Get it right first, then release it. It’s not as if they are just starting.

Thanks for your suggestion. I was hopeful. Did exactly what you said. Even restarted my iPad after doing what you said.

Did not work. Messages with the gray hand symbol(meaning blocked) just kept coming in.

I truly believe Apple could stop this “in a heartbeat “. They just choose not to for monetary reasons and the only way to make them listen is to make their money stream get smaller. It is unfortunate but that’s the way the system works.

thanks again for your response.

I was hoping for an answer to same problem. I found something online about it, that appears to have an effect on emails still going to inbox after correctly blocking an email contact, as per ios13+ instructions. What I had to do is clear out all email from each user that I have blocked from my iphone 7

had to do so manually, and it took a lot of time. If a previous email is left on the phone, the next email from the blocked contact still goes to the inbox, but if all previous emails are deleted prior to the next email received from blocked user are removed, subsequent emails do go to the bin.

  1. Prior to add blocked contact, search through inbox for all email from the email address.
  2. Delete all but the last email received.
  3. open last email.
  4. Click on sender name.
  5. Click on sender name again (next to from)
  6. click block sender.
  7. if the sender is already blocked, be sure all emails from the person are fully deleted from phone, including, sent, inbox, bin folders, including last email.

This worked for me, but it’s not efficient way, and iOS should fix the dam issue.

hope this helps someone. -Scott

More info. You can also block incoming email using the setting app.

Choose Your Block Settings

Before getting to blocking senders, you'll want to choose the way Mail handles blocked contacts. In the Settings app, tap "Mail," then find the Threading section. Tap "Blocked Sender Options" there, and you have three options:

  • None, which turns off all email blocking.
  • Mark as Blocked, Leave in Inbox, which does exactly what it sounds like, though, you will not get notifications for these emails like you would others.
  • Move to Trash, which moves to your trash. You can manually empty the trash or have it set to do so automatically in your account settings.

These settings apply to all accounts you have in Mail, not just iCloud. So it will apply to email accounts from Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and others.

I have the same issue with OS Catalina on my iMac. I too thought that the entire point of Blocking the sender was so that all subsequent mail from the sender would go directly into Trash without me ever seeing it in my Inbox. But no - all the mail from a blocked sender still shows up in the inbox with the heading that this mail is from a Blocked Sender !! Well, that's a useless

feature !! I posed this question to the community yesterday but haven't received any responses. I thought that some geniuses on this forum would have an answer but so far - nothing.

We have to realize we are talking to another computer. If the mail would be blocked no one would make money. Our info is sold like a coke.Unsucribe on anything is proving the address is good. That is what l get out of this.If you do block no money for the trash mail we are getting. No one knows how to stop .They just want to keep you hooked to make money. How sad. That is my take

Contact blocking does not work .Block should not come in at all.Defenition block is to keep away but not working.I blovk same gmail over and over that is stupid.Only thing l can come up with is if blocked no money made off the person sent to.Our address are sold but who gets the money space? Wish things would work.Apple says recover password but they mean make a new one .They do not know the meanings of words.Good luck

Let’s see if I can explain what I think is happening and why it seems that no matter what you block and ask to be sent to the trash still seems to be coming back. Let’s use an insurance company as an example. Okay AAA sells insurance and wants you to buy it, so they have a sales rep contact you and you say “no thank you”. End of story right? NO, because they have many, many, many sales people all over the country that do the same job and they all use the same list of names and numbers to contact people with, so if you’re on that list and you get contacted by one of the sales people and you politely decline, there are many, many more from the same company that you haven’t spoken to yet, but eventually you WILL.

Remember, that when you block someone you are actually blocking an email address and NOT a company. So AAA@scamartist.com is not the same as AAA@ripoffartist.com and there are hundreds if not thousands of those behind most of the repetitive emails you get. So now when you block AAA you’re not really blocking AAA just one of its many sales people.

To check this, the next time you get an email from someone you’re sure you blocked earlier, write the email address down an go look for it in your blocked address list. I would be very surprised if you find that latest address is already in the list.

GOOD LUCK!

P.S. APPLE could fix this by simply changing the blocking rules to read “block the company/product and not the email address”. But they haven’t! They must be making money by allowing this to continue.

That’s not happening. iOS actually DOES recognize the email as originating from a blocked contact. If it didn’t, Preferences wouldn’t show up, and you would have to manually block it every time. When you open a blocked email in the inbox, the option is “Unblock this contact.” For a different email address, the option would be “Block,” not Unblock.

Are There any updates on this yet? I’ve literally tried everything to stop these junk emails. After trying to unsubscribe, (even though my email isn’t apart of their mailing lists) flagging, moving to junk and after all those didn’t change the fact that these emails are delivered daily to me I tried blocking it figuring that would stop my inbox from filling, I’m still receiving.

Why does nothing work?!
