I was having this problem on a 15" MBP 2019 with the Pro Vega 20, then again on the 16" 2019 MBP with the 8GB Radeon I swapped it for.
Basically, your Catalina install comes with a bunch of extensions for running RAID hard drives (most users won't ever do this). Something about at least one of them is broken. I haven't worked out exactly which ones cause the problem, but they can all be safely removed if you don't use RAID HDDs.
They can be found in MacintoshHD>Library>Extensions. Make sure you're looking the right right Library folder, you want the one on in Macintosh HD, NOT the one under your username. I made a backup of them just in case, then cleared out the following .kext files:
ACS6x
ArcMSR
ATTOCelerityFC8
ATTOExpressSASHBA2
ATTOExpressSASRAID2
CalDigitHDProDrv
HighPointIOP
HighPointRR
PromiseSTEX
SoftRAID
Since I was on a very fresh install, I expect these are all the ones which come with Catalina as standard. My machine has since been waking from sleep successfully and quickly every time, even with multiple displays and USB-C devices plugged in.
The issue continue after sleep and also browsers not working after a long period of inactivity
Just installed MacOs 10.15.3 (19D76) but still crashing (twice) in sleep/wake... Very annoying and very disappointing. Bunch of losers in Cupertino.
Oh, don't say that. I don't think "Saints" use the profanity laced tirades that are, usually, self-censored from these posts.
This question is for anyone who has been able to successfully remove those extensions. I tried to delete those extensions and my computer wouldn't let me. How do we do that? Thanks!
I didn’t actually delete them, I just moved them to a folder on my desktop. I wanted to keep them in case it caused any problems.
I removed, well, the ones that I had, and it didn't seem to make a difference.
If my memory serves me correctly I wasn't even able to move them to a folder. I will go back and try again. Thanks!
10.15.3 has not resolved my crashes either. I was getting hopeful after a few good days but that hope has just been shattered with yet another inexplicable crash cycle.
10.15.3 has not resolved the "sleep/wake" issues for me either. Installed the 10.15.3 Combo Update.
FYI - I just tried removing Chrome hardware acceleration, but I’m still getting the crash on sleep. :-(
This component failure is what was responsible for the Watchdog timeout?
I think need to highlight it to Apple Leadership on this issue. https://twitter.com/aurallion/status/1240308260558614529
Should it being covered by Apple warranty during warranty period?
Dear @xocd,
Thank you so much for your kind advice. I feel much better already! I shall follow your advice.
Never use any antivirus on Mac. So this is not my case for sure
Any solution?
