Mail crashes when trying to open Time Machine since upgrade to Catalina

When attempting to open Time Machine for my primary email address, Mail closes and provides an error message. My iMac has the public version of Catalina installed. Time Machine works fine with lesser used email addresses and when looking for something via Finder. I get the following error message (I've only included the applicable part). Thanks for your insights!

Richard.... I believe you misunderstood my solution. You still can not "Enter Time Machine" while in the Mail App. Mine crashes there as well. My solution, which I got from someone else is to use "FINDER" starting from the Home Folder. Then navigate to the Mail Folders "IN FINDER" then restore the mail box folders you want. You need to read my complete instructions for some things to watch out for.

However, maybe this will not work for your Time Machine Backup if it is located on a Network Storage Device (NAS). Mine is located on a directly attached backup usb drive. If yours is on a network server it might not have the same level of folder structure. But maybe another option similar to what I did.

I completely agree Apple needs to address this. But I simply could not wait and I found a workaround that worked for me and wanted to share with others that require access to older emails.

Same same. Not only that, but I recently restored to a new SSD from Time Machine and almost all my mail messages came back corrupted. When first starting Mail they appear as blank, but if I start to reply to one I see a completely different message quoted. So I try restoring just my mail and as soon as I start Time Machine, both Mail and TM crash. I'm on Catalina 10.15.02.

Plus, a load of files were missing from the original restore. Used disk space has gone down from about 230GB on the previous SSD to 170GB. Fortunately, re-restoring specific files or folders does work.
