Good morning Babcia123,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you are having issues with dictation and the microphone on your iPhone 7. Is this happening in the Yahoo app or the Mail app? Are you able to use dictation in any other apps like Messages or Notes? The resources below will help you troubleshoot this issue. I've highlighted some key information here for you. Click on the link for complete details.

If you have updated to iOS 13.1.2, when you open the Settings app, the Accessibility controls are on the first screen.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

iPhone User Guide - iOS 13 - Dictate text on iPhone

"Enable Dictation

  1. Go to Settings  > General > Keyboard.
  2. Turn on Enable Dictation."

Use Dictation on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the microphones on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch aren't working

  1. "Unplug any accessories and disconnect any Bluetooth headsets.
  2. Avoid blocking the microphone with your fingers or case while holding the device or recording video.
  3. Remove screen protectors, films, or cases that cover the microphone or iPhone receiver.
  4. Clear any debris from the microphones or iPhone receiver.
  5. Restart your device.
  6. Make sure you have the latest version of iOS.

If you've tried these steps, contact Apple Support."

Take care.

Here is my thread with yahoo mail support earlier this month. Which by the way it did not resolve it. And when I indicated that I still think the problem is with Yahoo Mail app they said it resides on the IOS side.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Yahoo Customer Care.

I understand you are having problem with Yahoo mail not working with the dictation. I am sorry for the inconvenience this might have caused you. No worries, I will certainly look into this to help you out. We appreciate your time and efforts reaching us out.

Yahoo apps work best on the latest version of the iOS software. Before trying any of the steps below check you have the latest version of iOS. If you're using an iOS beta version, try updating to the latest official iOS release.

  1. Force stop and restart the app
  2. When you force stop an app it refreshes the active memory for the app.
  3. Restart the device
  4. If you're still having problems with the app after you restart the device, the app could be corrupt.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall the app
  6. It's possible the app has become corrupt. Install a fresh copy of the app to fix this problem.

Should you have any other concern feel free to contact us. We are happy to help.

I wanted to let you know that you'll be receiving a short survey via email regarding how I assisted you today. I would really appreciate you taking a minute to share your feedback, so we can improve your overall customer experience.

My iPhone X is doing the same exact thing after an update. Dictation is working in all other apps except for Yahoo app. I talk one or two words and then it stops and cursor goes before the words. I also noticed another small issue when I plug in my auxiliary cord to my car speaker from my iPhone when I use to make a phone call instead of it automatically hooking up to my auxiliary to go through my car speakers it puts it right on speakerphone. Which is a little bit annoying when you go to try to make a phone call and you’re already on the road drivingAnd then I have to unhook the cord and reinsert it to get it to communicate. Before the update as soon as I plugged in my auxiliary cord to my phone it automatically hooked up to my speakers in my car without any issues. It is a small nuisance that makes the hands-free driving really an issue.

The response is not helpful.

It’s not a dictation problem. Dictation works fine in other apps.

The problem is with the interface between the new Apple update and Yahoo! Mail.

After a couple of words dictation stops in the cursor goes back to the beginning.

I wasn’t having this problem until I accidentally updated my phone.

This is why I try to avoid updates. Now I can’t use Yahoo! Mail.

Apple, I pay you a lot of money. Can you please fix this simple problem?

Please fix this issue with yahoo dictate ASAP it’s important to me with the amount of Emails I need to respond to. When I use dictate I managed to get a couple of words in and then it jumped straight back to the beginning of the sentence, At first I thought there was something wrong with my phone but now I see this is a serious issue that many people are having

iPhone X with no problems dictating in the Yahoo Mail app prior to the iOS 13 update, and now dictation is limited to just a few words. I have updated to iOS 13.2, removed and reinstalled the Yahoo app, as well as restarted the phone, all to no avail. It has been almost three weeks since the initial report of this problem, and it is clearly a widespread issue. It would be nice to hear some form of acknowledgement from Apple Support that they at least recognize the problem and are working on it.

Spent over an hour on chat with Apple yesterday discussing this problem. I was passed up the line to a senior tech person. Several suggestions, no resolution. Apple blames the problem on Yahoo -- "Their app is not compatible with our operating system." I politely pointed out that the problem was caused when I updated the Apple operating system, and there was no problem before I updated the OS. Therefore I suggested that Apple had at least some responsibility for this problem. Apple didn't seem to care. I tried to contact Yahoo, but could find no customer service there. Apple disclaims responsibility. I wish I had not updated my OS. I only did so accidentally, because I know that updating the Apple IOS leads to problems with data and apps. Very, very frustrating. No solution in sight.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us again.

We're very sorry if the previous responses was not able to resolve your issues related to your Yahoo Mobile App voice functions. This might be an issue with the compatibility with the new OS and our Yahoo Mail App. We suggest to update the app and your phone at the same time. If the issues persist contact your phone manufacturer.

All the best,

Apple seems to have no interest in addressing this issue and says it’s a Yahoo! problem.

And it is a Yahoo issue.

Despite the theory that iOS13 is responsible, the reality is that app developers are responsible for keeping their apps fully compatible with a given operating system, not the other way around.

Yahoo would have had access to the iOS beta code well in advance of general release. That they have not updated their app for any changes in iOS13 is on them. Not Apple.

Not the answer anybody wants, but it is the accurate answer.

Read the replies from Yahoo quoted above. Nowhere have they pointed at Apple being the issue.

Apple can't fix an issue in a 3rd party application.
