Catalina impact on Bluetooth magic mouse and trackpad

Good news: since upgrading to Catalina the conflict that prevented having a trackpad and magic mouse 1 connected at the same seems to have been finally fixed.

Bad news: with or without trackpad, the Magic Mouse 1 keeps dropping (every hour or so on average) its BT connection to my Mac. Any suggestions on a fix?

I'm running Catalina 10.15.2, 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019.

I'm using a wireless keyboard and MM1. MM1 keeps dropping it's connection every 30 secs or so.

I disconnected the wireless keyboard and switched to a USB keyboard. MM1 now stable.

Wireless keyboard and MM2 have no issues.

However, I don't understand why this should happen, and share everyone's frustration with Apple.

It's bad enough that every time I change computers I have to spend $100's in new adapters.

Can't you at least make bluetooth devices work seamlessly?

I have been searching and searching for a fix to this and FINALLY found it today! I followed Step 2 on this and it worked like a charm. The only issue is that I can only use either my Magic Mouse or my Trackpad - if trackpad is on then I cannot use the mouse. But I'm okay with that because now my trackpad, mouse and keyboard are working wirelessly again! Hallelujah. Hope this helps others.

I am experiencing the same issue.

My Magic Mouse kept getting disconnected throughout the day. This is very very bad. Sometimes, I just need to click the button a few times to get connected, sometimes, I have to turn off the mouse and turn it back on. Sometimes, nothing will work at all. There is no consistence pattern that I noticed to cause it or to recover the connectivity.

I tried to remove the Magic Mouse from the BlueTooth and reconnect back. Issue still exist but it seems work a bit longer before issue arise again.

I have Catalina 10.15.2 installed on 2018 13" A1989 Macbook Pro with Touchbar and my MM1 is dropping intermittently. Also connection is super fuzzy like while moving the cursor moves are interrupted. It is super bad experience. And one guy posted this issue as solved after upgrading the OS. Such that guys around we are not getting any support from apple. Almost 100 people complaining about this issue and how you dare to marked it as solved!

I found an article here https://www.lifewire.com/fix-magic-mouse-tracking-error-2260770 i am not 100% sure it fixed my problem but i ve been trying that since 2 days and it is way better than before. What is is basically doing:

  1. Open your `/Library/Preferences` folder.
  2. Make all files visible and start to delete files listed in below according to your device.
  3. Then restart your computer. It will regenerate necessary files according to your device again.

NOTE: Again i am not sure whether it fixes or not but it is making difference and it is a proof that this is 100% a software bug of Apple.

i’ve been so frustrated today. Bluetooth mouse just constantly dropping. I decided to turn off Bluetooth and went back to a wired keyboard and wired mouse. Such a relief now I can get work done on my computer without having to keep restarting it. I’m going to wait till Apple has a solution for this problem before I go back to the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard!

Contacted Apple Help again, and we have resolved the problem, in my case with my computer and its peripheral mouse accessories. It happens, it has been resolved and I have the Case ID number if it fault reoccurs.

Also we now know that Apple are aware of my issue and it is logged.

Staff charming, as ever. so Thank You Apple.

I would encourage a call to apple help/support to see if it resolves your own issues. That way an official fault can be logged with knowledge of hardware, OS, peripheral etc etc.
