photos crashing on catalina

Its not the only problem it seems, now.......my Mac crashes unexpectedly when it likes.......restarts itself when ever it likes, and takes minutes to start up and restart ....The update really has caused a major issue with my ability to use my Mac....Tried everything to downgrade and remove Catalina but failed.....Will have to wait till the next update and hope its....... back to Mojave :(

Ok here is my full story! I have a 2016 12" macbook. It was working fine with no issues, except the occasional photo app freeze. Last month I updated to catalina, then restarted. I tried to open photos it crashed again, so I just went to bed. The next morning I turned on my laptop to see a flashing file icon with a question mark in it. I called support and they tried to guide me to reinstall catalina. In the process we realized that my computer is not seeing the drive. One thing led to another and realized that my hard drive has failed and now I need a brand new hard drive, AND I lost all my photos, forever.

WheN I went to "genius bar", the diagnosis was that I eventually have to install a new hard drive, and pay for it. I argued that the failure is because of the update that apple created, but I kept getting loophole answers that did not make sense. So I paid close to $500 to fix that, got my laptop back and reinstalled everything like its a new laptop. 3 days in, Photos is freezing again and laptop overheats.

Apple, just put a life expectancy on laptops instead of keep messing things up for your customers with creating incompatible updates! (ps: the catalina update was supposed to be compatible with my laptop).

I have exactly the same problem - there is no consistency in the cause of the crash - I might be moving between photos or editing/cropping and it will crash without warning. It may happen after a few mins or 30 mins.

Also the service causing the crash varies between photoanalysisd, photolibraryd, imageconversion, etc.

Although the kernel panics refer to gpu_restart so I don't know if my problem is h/w, s/w or both?

since catalina photos is freezing after seeing 20-30 pictures... sliding with the mouse

Since Calatlina upgrade Photos keeps crashing during export function. And NO longer exports in sequence!

I have the same question too. and my IMAC since I updated it with Catalina, has been suuuuper slow!!!

I've been having the same problem with my photos and Catalina.

I just upgraded to Cataline 10.15.3 and Photos is crashing now! Repeatedly :(

Yes as soon as I downloaded Catalina on my Imac the photo app doesnt work. I will just transfer my files to an external hard drive.

Has anyone used this wouldn’t wand to miss it up any worse than it is.
