I had the same problem...it took double the time to download photos from cards...apparently I used my external drive as a back up and it corrupted my Photos...I spent 3 days on the phone with Apple talking to those who work with Photo app...I finally had to buy another external drive and transfer all my photos over to it and then reformat the old one...that seems to have fixed it...but I am a photographer so had so many photos and the Photos app that I used would not open up or took hours to open up...do not use the external drive that you use for everything else with Time Machine to backup your files...use a seperate drive to do this...this is what the Apple techs told me...they also said they had no indication that Catalina did this...but it started when I downloaded Catalina...they said that it made the errors more pronounced and wide spread...

Never taught I would even think about going back to a Windows computer but if this can't be fixed it leaves me no choice, I got $2500.00 + taxes into this machine and because Apple got it missed up they will give me another new one at cost don't intend to spend more money on Apple.

I have the iPad Pro 10.5 works perfectly and my iPhone 8 works perfectly why can't they fix the mac.

I am so fed up with contacting Apple...on the phone for hours and no clear way of dealing with this...or they don't call back. Apple has a real problem in being able to admit that they have a problem with anything that goes wrong. My Photos is still crashing when I go fast in scrolling through them or for whatever reason is good enough for it to crash...there really doesn't have to be a reason. Apple isn't perfect and wish they would quit acting like they are. Just admit there is a problem and let us know you are working on it and will keep us updated...but no they can't do that...they want to say there is no problem. They tried to tell me it was my fault and because I have Photos on an external drive I had to go out and buy another one...transfer all my photos over and then to have it just keep on doing the same ****. Quit blaming us and fix the **** thing!!!!

Apple I know you know who i am and I would like for you to contact me and take over my computer and see what it's doing in Photos, This computer was rock solid until Catalina and now I hate to turn it on and your Apple store in Halifax NS Canada told me they would sell me a new one at cost, i don't need a new computer I need Apple to fix the problem they created.

about my macOS photo permanent crash... I tried everything and nobody sent to have an answer to my pain.

I was extensively browsing for a complex solution while stuck confined at home until I read, I don't remember where, that fully de-logging of iCloud on the mac in pain could fix it.

And it did!

my macOS Photo world that stopped working properly 3 months ago is now back.

all my iCloud pictures came back after I trashed the corrupted database into the bin and re-logged onto iCloud.

I am very happy and I will not give-up on apple.

I know most problems come from somewhere between the keyboard and the seat but really... how comes this was so hard to find?

When I try to post here it says this and I don't know what else to do: You’ve exceeded the 5000 character limit for this post. If you want to upload a log report or system crash report, please use the additional text feature

I tried to do what it says but can't get it to work.

If you are with Apple why don't you hook into my computer and have a look at my problem, I've had this to the Apple store in our area and was told if I couldn't live with it they would sell me a new MacBook Pro at cost that is not what i'm looking for, I have everything Apple MacBook Pro, iPhone 8 , iWatch series 5, iPad Pro, iPod.

Would just like to have my Mac work like it use to before Catalina. They even put a new copy of Catalina on it at the Apple Store.

1) when i uncheck my photos tab from my mac os Catalina (mac book pro) and and press sync, it shows that photos will be removed from my iphone, it remains there on my iphone and have to master reset to delete them from the iphone.

2) and when i sync my iphone with my macbook pro for photos specially, some of my photos crashes and appear blank on my iphone.

When I started this post I thought for sure that Apple would have a fix for this soon...but here we are in May 2020 and still having the same problem even doing most things that was recommended...my photos are still closing when I scroll through them at the break neck speed of 1 frame every 4 secs...it is driving me crazy as I am a photographer...now I just want to ditch the whole Apple thing...

Apple you are not listening to us...there is a huge problem with photos crashing ever since I updated to Catalina...please FIX IT!!!!

Mine is working a little different than yours when I scroll mine stops part way across the screen then opens driving me crazy, I also have the problem when scrolling on ebay etc it doesn’t scroll smooth just can’t understand why Apple can’t fix this.

I’m to the point now I hardly use my MacBook Pro and loved doing my Pictures on it before this happened, Apple’s solution at the Apple store was if you can’t live with it we will sell you a new Mac at cost, who want’s a new one when when they can’t fix it when you have a problem.

Apple you can fix this you are just not listening to your customers and I have thousands tied up in your equipment.

I'm not entirely sure if this will work for everybody's library but the crashing on my MacBook Pro has reduced significantly upon disabling 'Autoplay Videos and Live Photos' in Preferences for Photos. I repaired my library thereafter and I'm only seeing the crashes every 40 photos or so, as opposed to every other photo beforehand. This shouldn't have to be a compromise we have to make but it's a temporary workaround in my case. Let me know if this changes anything in your use cases!
