Scratched watch face

My series 5 stainless steel watch is only 2 weeks old and under a bright light noticed a scratch right across the face of the watch. I have been super careful with the watch . Haven’t knocked it, scraped it or bashed it on anything. I thought the sapphire glass was meant to be tuff? I have another watch (not apple) that I have had for 10 years and it doesn’t have a scratch on it. Could the scratch have been there before I brought it and haven’t noticed it before because haven’t looked that closely? Has anyone else experienced scratches only after 2 weeks of use?

I really expect that Apple will fix it soon and they will change our watches, because it was verry expensive.

with those money you can buy an autentic watch with real sapphire glass and swiis mecanism that will live on your hands at least 10-20 years.

this watch is not for more than 3-4 years!

That may be true. I don’t see other responses, but in my opinion, aluminum or not, Apple has a responsibility to ensure their $500 watches are durable. I think the quality has fallen significantly since my first Apple Watch purchase. Admittedly, they have upgraded software and the hardware that powers it.

If we’re supposed to find shear enjoyment from Apple products, then shouldn’t they live up to Apple’s hype?

I purchased the series 6, my first iwatch, (actually, my wife did for my birthday) less than a month ago. I've been careful while wearing the watch, but noticed a series of scratches that developed on the screen seemly overnight - the watch looked great then it didn't. (I wish I knew how or when, but there wasn't a big accident that I am aware of.) I wear nice watches regularly and haven't had a similar issue.

Luckily I purchased AppleCare, and they are doing an express replacement. I researched the apple forum boards before making the purchase, and they didn't recommend purchasing a third party screen protector and noted apple didn't sell one, implying it wasn't needed. That seems like poor advice now.

I was prepared for some scratches over time on the aluminum case (I opted for the cellular model) based on what I read, but didn't expect them on the watch face. (It makes the watch look terrible.)

When I get the replacement I plan to use a third party watch face protector. Possibly a coating at Verizon. Any suggestion?

I like many / most features of the watch - the technology is great - and have been wearing it daily for activity tracking. However, if the face remains scratched up I won't wear it long and will likely return to a Garmin model especially for athletics and tracking. (I haven't done what I'd consider a workout in the watch yet as I haven't wanted to scratch it so soon!)

I don't think Apple is using sapphire glass exclusively but instead some short of blend that contains a fair amount of sapphire glass in it. Also, these watches have an oleophobic coating that is prone to micro scratching. Believe it or not, I have a micro scratch on mine, even though I've used a TPU case since day 1. I am quite convinced that I've accidentally banged it on something sharp since the case has a similar shaped scratch at the exact same spot where the screen scratch is. However, this doesn't make my sorrow any less, but I ve decided to live with it. I've been worrying way too much for many years about scratches on my iPhones and I don't want to live like that anymore. Just put on a panzer glass and you'll be fine, you ll never get to see the scratch again.

I hear you, I think the quality of the glass isn't up to usual wear and tear like previous versions. I know you have to pay extra to get the same quality and hardness of glass as previous versions from v5 forward. While this is only what I've been told it feels right to me. They do scratch very easily which is a shame as they are a precision product and once damaged they depreciate significantly. Come on Apple you can do it, with future versions, this is not good!
