Scratched watch face

My series 5 stainless steel watch is only 2 weeks old and under a bright light noticed a scratch right across the face of the watch. I have been super careful with the watch . Haven’t knocked it, scraped it or bashed it on anything. I thought the sapphire glass was meant to be tuff? I have another watch (not apple) that I have had for 10 years and it doesn’t have a scratch on it. Could the scratch have been there before I brought it and haven’t noticed it before because haven’t looked that closely? Has anyone else experienced scratches only after 2 weeks of use?

A lot of you are posting pictures of the aluminum model. Those don’t have sapphire, they have Ion-X Glass. It is not scratch resistant. If it seems to be scratching easier than an older aluminum model that you own/owned, perhaps something has changed, who knows.

To the OP and others who have stainless steel models scratching, are you absolutely sure it isn’t just the oleophobic coating? It scratches easily, but can be polished off. There are lots of posts about it on the internet. I’ve had the same happen to me with a couple, it always rubs off eventually. They should just leave that crap off from the get-go.. it’s pointless to use.
