Apple TV app home sharing

I have most my movie and TV shows downloaded on a thunderbolt drive connected, in the pass I've used home sharing to watch on my Apple TVs. The Home Sharing app is till on the Apple TV but I cannot find the Home Sharing button in the drop menu in the AppleTV app. I home sharing no longer available? Where I live streaming is difficult do to very slow internet speeds. I need home sharing to work what can I do?
