Still no better connection speed than 39 MBs.

wow, we feel your pain! 😉

what do you get with other devices?

I get the same rate with the ipad and other devices, i.e. between 10-20 MB/s.

I have been getting always > 100 MBs with all the other 'n' devices connected to the airport router. However, I have not had any of those issues with any of my iPads - like ABC player works for an hour and a half or so without a single glitch etc.

Something's still wrong, though.

I've never had a single connectivity problem between my iPad and WiFi either. (knock on wood!).
I think I'll stand back here in the corner and see how it goes for the rest of you.
Is it typical of Apple to come out with an update out of the blue without anyone even knowing it was coming? I don't care, it just seems odd that non one knew about it until it was released.

For folks having issues post update try rebooting everything, and I mean everything...your router your iPad and anything in between. WiFi connections are not like hard wired, they are impacted by a number of variables and can be temperamental for lack of a better word (even if your other WiFi products are working).

The comments about problems posted here and elsewhere are in the minority by far to date. That's not to say there might not be problems, but the issues and symptoms being posted are not unusual events for regular WiFi equipment after a version update. Sometimes routers, etc. have to be reset to default in order to reconnect. A different channel may be all that it takes. As recommended, have your iPad "forget" your network and re-establish a new connection after rebooting everything.

I've had occasions where I've had to reboot systems a couple times and even then give things a little time to get connected before everything would work. It may in fact be a problem with your iPad, but after this many positive responses (including my own) I have to believe the update is good but that there are some anomalies. Don't give up too quickly and have some patience. If things don't clear up I'd certainly give Apple a call though.

FWIW An Apple Advisory issued in early May promised an update that would address iPad WiFi connectivity problems so this update is certainly not out of the blue and in fact long awaited by many. From the original Advisory:

+"A very small number of iPad users have experienced issues with Wi-Fi connectivity. This article outlines workarounds for these issues. Apple will also address remaining Wi-Fi connectivity issues with a future iPad software update. "+

That Advisory has been replaced by this one with the latest WiFi network troubleshooting tips from Apple:

My wifi worked well most of the time prior to the update. My only issue was when connected through a repeater, and far away from the repeater. It worked usually, but sometimes would do the "connecting" thing, once in a while it would drop completely, and frequently the wifi icon would flash off and on. I chalked it up to weak signal, due to the distance from the repeater. Whenever I was close to a router, things worked fine, including restaurants, motels, airports, hospitals, etc...

Since updating this afternoon, I don't seem to have these problems. At least not yet. No "connecting" problem, no drops, no flashing icon. I'm connected through the repeater, which is in a separate building from the main router. And I'm sitting 4 rooms and about 150 feet away from the repeater. So far so good!

The update seems to have resulted in a significant improvement.

Never had a Wi-Fi problem before, not having one after the update. All passwords are still remembered, speed tests show the same, and Wi-Fi still performs better than my iPhone's. Range is about the same, getting the same signal strength and speed at work, at home it is a non-issue sitting a few feet away.

Not noticing any slowness opening up iPod, changing screens or other normal use. It displays available Wi-Fi spots and connects to them quickly just as before. Syncing and backups also performing at the asme speed for me.
