I'm having trouble with the audio/sound after installing Catalina in my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016).
Sometimes the audio is gone and only come back if i restart the computer.
Even if i close the apps (including Music app) and reopen them again, there is no sound. Must restart the computer for the audio to come back.

Too many bugs and issues with macOS Catalina. How can I revert to Mojave? I'll wait till a newer, stable os is published. Definitely not on your game Apple, what gives?
Same issue here (MB Pro 2019 Catalina 10.15.3). It's frustrating. Restarting coreaudiod process returns the sound back.

Same issue for me. Literally brand new Macbook Pro, bought yesterday. No sound coming out of speakers. I feel like it's a Catalina issue, been having a lot of Catalina issues lately

I have the same problem with Catalina, my sound cuts in and out. I have tried everything! Very frustrating.!
We definitely need some help here on this topic. Everytime the Macbook wakes up from sleep, the audio doesn't work and it requires a restart.
When we called tech support we were told to make a test user account. Worked fine so we went back to the original account and it still works fine.
I agree with you about how disappointing it is that Apple doesn't post here.

Restarting coreaudiod made it worked. Looks like bug in Catalina
What you should is run MacOs Mojave on a virtual machine and use iTunes, until Apple gets on the ball and makes the Music App a functioning app worthwhile for us Apple users.
I am facing the same problem on my MacBook Pro 2015 15 inch after i updated the Catalina OS to 10.15.6. My MacBook speakers are sounding weird now, before that speakers were working fine
