Placing cursor middle of word - iOS 13

Does anyone else have issues placing the cursor in the middle of a word to edit with the new iOS 13 update?

It used to be really easy, you just clicked where you wanted the cursor to be... I have no idea why they changed it. I for the life of me couldn't work out how to do it, but found (on another website, not apple's) this explanation:

If your keyboard is currently inactive, just tap wherever you'd like your cursor to go, and it will follow suit. If your cursor is already active, tap the word you want to jump to, which will land the cursor at the beginning or end of the word. Then, long-press the middle of the word, let go, and watch your cursor appear in the middle.

So extra complicated!!

Is there any way to revert this setting, so it was how it was before? Instead of one tap, it's now a tap and a long hold (which is really tricky and glitchy, sometimes the whole word gets highlighted...)

I too was bugged by this but the new way to do it is to let the cursor know you want to edit mid word by placing your finger on the cursor and holding until you see the cursor grow to a larger size and then drag it to the mid word spot or wherever you want to place it and beging typing. It's not the same as it was before, a little more time involved and less intuitive but it can be quicker than retyping the whole word. One point, you can only change the cursor when it's a cursor. When it has become a whole word highlight you must tap somewhere else in your text to deactivate the highlight and return to a cursor.

This method only works sometimes on iphones...at least in my experience.

Better method by far (and the one that has now worked for me 100% of the time) is the spacebar-trackpad one described in detail in a previous post. Basically, press the space bar which turns keyboard into trackpad. Then put the cursor exactly where you want it. No issues with trying to see around finger, no issues with cursor jumping to wrong line.

Again, just my experience, but I started with the original iphone, so been around the block a few times.

I did each suggestion posted here but the cursor placement prob has not improved a whit. It lands either before or after a word and i have to retype THE ENTIRE WORD IN ORDER to change one single incorrect letter.

Have you tried pressing and holding the space bar so that the entire keyboard becomes a trackpad? It's then extremely easy to position the insertion point where you want it.

Ones that have a stake in it should. I have no issue with the way it works, but that does not mean everyone does. We will see what Apple does. I know I liked the way the trackpad worked, and understand how they modified the cursor for word and group selections. However, not everyone is looking for selection, and are used to tapping in a word area to make a change. You just have to do it with the trackpad feature by pressing and holding on the space bar. We will see what happens.
